Well that was a pithy article. Three short profiles of "bad experience", two of which were addiction related, no real wrap-up at the end, no real interfacing with the stories to discuss things they could have, or should have done that could serve as lessons to others.

We need more science education, and basic epistemology taught at every level. Not What to believe, but How and Why; and the What's follow from there.
I have a dear friend who fell down the Flat Earth rabbit hole some years ago, and only upon discussing the topic with him did I learn just how bad his science education had been all his life; and trying to get him interested in actual science proved impossible because the conspiratorial mindset was already in place alongside the "you're being lied to" defense.
Like, yeah, I personally can't detect the Cosmic Microwave Background of the Big Bang with the Observatory that's not in my back yard. But that's not proof that the scientists are lying, making up stories. Reproducibility can be a problem in science; but not with basic physical facts of the universe that have been reproduced across the continents, multiple times.
Education may not be a magic bullet, but it's definitely a fantastic tool to begin the journey towards the more rational.

"Malazan: The Book of the Fallen" by Steven Erikson has probably got what you need.
The main series is 10 books long, and they are amongst the most violent, brutal, but ultimately very well-written series I've ever (so far) read (still on Book 5).
Books 2 and 3 were too dark for my tastes but I plugged on through and I'm loving it. Great characters, wonderful dialogue, and way less obsessed with Food as GRRM

This is what they seem to never understand:
They fixed the price of bread for years. Before getting caught, if people had asked them, "are you fixing the price of bread?", they would have said No, and probably have acted insulted that they were even asked.
So now, if we ask them if they're fixing any other prices, they'll say No, and act insulted.
After last time, why should we believe anything they say at any point?

But then when the bogs get flooded for harvest, the wolf spiders have nowhere to go that's not water, so the people who are harvesting cranberries are like tall islands of refuge, so they swarm to the humans for safety, so the humans are covered in friendly happy relieved wolf spiders <3

The truly rich tip worse than everyone else. Speaking in generalities, they're among the most selfish, least charitable people out of all income brackets, the same way you often see the most expensive cars on the road driving the worst.
There's definitely exceptions, but as a classy they definitely ain't very classy.

Posted this in a random thread yesterday but figured it probably deserved more views. This is from a rainy day last August, near the peak at Pretty River Valley Provincial Park, Ontario, on the Niagara Escarpment. I watched the clouds rolling in, and then they rolled into and through the forest, creating an absolutely magical scene. Hikers are welcome. Trails are very poorly marked. Start at the bottom of the valley for maximum elevation gain. :)

White grass planets are nice, but pink grass is so much more chill. Add to that blue-green seas, pink skies, and a wonderful view of a neighboring ringed planet + moon, and you've got a premier destination for anyone visiting the Galaxy 59 core. Sure, there are some minor storms every now and again, but the pink serpent-butterflies and blue-white nighttime nebulae make up for any intermittent weather inconvenience.
