Google has been rolling out a thing where an AI result is the first thing that pops up, often taking up the whole screen lol. I’ve personally witnessed tons of people google something normally, then just go with whatever the AI says.

Makes me shake my head, but it’s not like they were very discerning with their sources before all this nonsense, either. Hopefully they don’t rely on it for any important medical advice down the road

Honestly I’ve done just about everything over the years except ultimates (I play with IRL friends and I’m happy if we can clear a savage tier lol)

If I had to pick a “main” activity I think it would be parsing tbh, I really enjoy chasing the numbers. I level up all jobs and also try to perfect at least the basic rotation for all of them. I’ll hang out on party finder and jump into extreme farms on off jobs to practice.

But there’s also been months where I’ve done nothing but like, ocean fishing, diadem, pvp (I love crystal conflict, best part about endwalker to me) and so on. That’s been one of my favorite things about the game; you can get totally wrapped up in a huge project. Almost like you can play the game to take a break from playing the game. Just recently we’ve gotten into treasure maps, super chill

there should be a subtle difference between the two signals

Not really. It sounds generally like you’re overvaluing the role of a plane relative to the magnetic poles. The string moves somewhat circularly, like a jump rope. It doesn’t matter how you angularly orient the pickups, all else being equal.

As for per-string pickips, hey, I’m all for it. Give me 6 output jacks as well so that each string can get its own effects chain.

Have you ever considered getting into synthesizers? Based on your thoughts I feel like you’d really enjoy making synth patches

a guitar pickup appears to be more of a two dimensional sensor that picks up the motion of a ferromagnetic string in the two primary directions of motion

It’s actually not a 2 dimensional sensor. It’s 1D, the velocity of the string induces a current in the coil (Faraday’s law)

there are more complex harmonic motions present than a pickup can register in two dimensions

Again not sure where 2d is coming from, but the current perfectly corresponds to the velocity of the string, which we already know is identical to the sum of the velocities created by all of the harmonics (Fourier Transformation).

How did you reach the conclusion that some harmonics are missing from the resultant signal?

the coil and slugs of a pickup are surrounded by a single large winding, yet the strings each have very different frequencies

The human ear also has different sensitivity to amplitudes at different frequencies, with higher pitched sounds not needing as much energy to reach the pain threshold. The distance between each string and the pickups is also adjusted during setups, sometimes including tilting the pickups themselves depending on the type of guitar.

Just a few thoughts I had while reading. This style of pickup really is just popular just because the’ve been popular for so long and they’re supremely reliable even with as much abuse as we put guitars through. There are others; you might enjoy reading about the physics of a piezo pickup, and the problems they often create for players haha

I genuinely hate it lol, as do all of my friends IRL.

We’re all huge into 14, which was produced by the same team. I mention it because there’s a ton of overlap with 14. The cinematography in the cutscenes and even the emotes the characters use feel lifted straight from the older game. The structure of the combat segments is also uncannily similar, they feel a lot like 14 dungeons. So, my group generally felt like the game got stale really quickly, which colored our impression as a whole.

The moment-to-moment gameplay also feels like a hyper simplified version of the “rotation” system in 14. You have a basic filler combo, and larger more powerful moves that can only be used again after a long cooldown timer. I found it to be under-stimulating, even after unlocking a few more things.

The story was awesome in the segments covered by the free trial, but then everything after that just kind of slipped off my brain. More than anything, I remember side quests in particular were really boring to the point where it felt like a joke.

We were really hyped and really really wanted to like the game when we first heard about it, and we were super hyped after playing the demo, but in the end it just felt like a really unpleasant slog to actually play.

At the same time however I can totally see why people do really enjoy the game. I think it’s a divisive release, and often the people who love/hate it will cite the exact same things but paint them in a different light. I ultimately wouldn’t not recommend the game, I think $50 is a really fair price for it too for what you’re getting

As mistaken as I believe they are, I can see why some women support him.

Lots of single issue voters see him as the abortion ban guy. Also tons of people that don’t see “him and his ideas” per se, but are so immersed in conservative propaganda that they simply think “Trump presidency = my kids will be able buy a house and live a normal life”

Then there’s the backfire effect, where people tend to double down on their beliefs instead of correcting them when presented with contradictory data. Obviously makes it really hard to pull someone out of the cult, needs a pretty extraordinary set of circumstances in many cases.

Even then, usually it won’t stick. There’s a very well done essay, “The only moral abortion is my abortion” by Joyce Arthur, I highly recommend giving it a read. Women who faithfully protest at abortion clinics and harass other women will one day come in for their own abortion, and then be back to protesting the following day

Sadly the big corporations don’t care at all and actually make money when people do these schemes.

They give money to artists based on proportions of overall listens. They take the same cut from the subscriptions either way. So a huge wave of fake listens basically just diverts money that otherwise would have gone directly to artists

Macs are like uncannily good at real-time audio processing, also audio and MIDI routing in general has less friction. Less tinkering in general when connecting external synths

Like with anything you can find tons of people online who have no issues with their windows based production setup, YMMV. But macs are ubiquitous in the music space, from my experience I think it’s deserved

    https://www.mayoclinic.org/healthy-lifestyle/nutrition-and-healthy-eating/in-depth/fat/art-20045550

Here is a link based more on nutrition

The short version is that saturated fats generally have a negative effect on cholesterol, and the recommendation is to limit your intake. They’re popular because they’re found in many animal products, and have useful properties (such as often being solid at room temperature, like butter)

Then unsaturated fats are pretty much the opposite, whether poly or mono unsaturated. They have a generally positive effect on health. Use these when possible.

Most sources of fats are a blend of the different types, so don’t worry excessive about it.

Oh and then trans fats are the worst for you by far and are banned from sale in many places, although you can actually create them in your own kitchen I believe via some methods of deep frying

  • I started seeing cakes appear on people’s usernames, and I realized that it’s been a full year now since the great debacle through which many of us discovered lemmy. Seeing them all start to pop up at once has made me a bit nostalgic. Memmy was such an exciting and important project during that time, I believe for many people it is *the* reason they stuck with lemmy in the long term. So, cheers to the devs, and to anyone who still checks on this community from time to time when memmy crosses their mind.

So, I noticed that a couple of my image uploads made using Voyager now just show a “?” graphic. Looking around this community, I’m seeing a lot of other people’s posts are like that too. In other apps and via browser, the images are also missing. Is anyone else experiencing this/do we know what’s happening?

Lemmy.world was experiencing authentication issues yesterday, making it difficult to comment and vote. These issues were resolved some hours ago when lemmy.world updated to 18.02, but you may still be experiencing issues with your account on third party apps such as memmy. If so, everything will start working normally if you remove your account from the app and add it again! Possibly just reinstalling will also achieve the same thing, but I haven’t tested that personally.

In Apollo, there was this really interesting feature that let you disable the gestures for voting/replying/etc. If you did so, then you could use the entire screen to navigate between posts instead of needing to swipe all the way from the side. I struggle with a repetitive stress injury and this feature helped me a lot! I managed to grab a screenshot of the exact setting before Apollo shut down. It would be awesome if something similar could be implemented in Memmy
