Jerboa

Basically title. I noticed the new version in my F-Droid client but there wasn't any information about it anywhere. The version name also had a mention of the Google Play Store (gplay). What's up with all of this? Are there any questionable proprietary components being implemented to comply with the Play Store requirements or something?

Hey there, This is an extremely minor quirk with how the image lightbox (apologies if I'm using web specific terms) behaves when a post image is selected from the feed and put into full screen mode. On devices with on-screen nav and expanded status bar areas (camera hole design concession), the lightbox will show end to end with the UI controls overlayed. If you tap once on the image to hide the UI elements, the status bar area is filled, whereas the nav area still shows as expected, though the image appears to resize slightly in response to the change in viewport. Wondering if this was intentional? Video link here: https://imgur.com/a/NG74wiO Truly the most P4 item I could think of but was curious. Pixel 7 | Android 14 | Lemmy 0.0.75

Like the title says. There are communities whose purpose is to just repost Reddit posts using bots and they're flooding my front page. I'd like to block it using Jerboa. Is it possible? Or can it be done via the web interface?

As the title says, if I click on a link to a Lemmy post that was deleted, or can't be found for whatever reason, Jerboa goes back to the start of the feed instead of going back to where I was. Especially annoying when I've been scrolling for a while. Sorry if it is a known bug, I haven't seen any post about it. Edit: trying to reproduce it, [test](https://sopuli.xyz/post/16571811) Edit2: this !madeupcommunity@sopuli.xyz lets me go back normally, so I think it's a weird interaction when opening urls in jerboa through URLCheck that makes another instance of it, restarting it. If I find any links that actually break it without this interaction I'll update the post, but until then, consider it a false alarm/special case ;)

If you look at the very bottom of the screen shot you can see that the home, search, etc buttons are cut off. Happy to provide more info to help. I'm on a stock pixel 3a.

I've encountered a small issue with Jerboa that I wanted to see if other people were experiencing. And or if there was a fix for this issue. E: fixed in 0.0.75 - thank you MV :) Hey there, I was wondering if anybody else was experiencing this behavior where the swipe to navigate back gesture would register twice within the app, taking you back two steps instead of just one. I'm not sure exactly when this behaviour was introduced, though it persists with today's .72 alpha release. I was to say it came about in the .6X timeframe. I've not found this reported on the github, though I just wanted to check that this isn't a system specific issue before submitting. #1399 may be relevant as it refers to swipe input sensitivity but I think that's more of a gesture threshold matter than input registering twice in the app. My app settings are attached in a photo: ![](https://lemmy.world/pictrs/image/9527cb6e-982b-4898-856d-019b4ff08d74.png) and I have a short clip: https://imgur.com/a/YOIKbtE Steps to reproduce: - Using the provided gesture settings in Jerboa - From the home feed, tap into a community name - From the community view, tap into a community post - Swipe left to navigate back to the community view - Observe two steps back in response to a single input Pixel 7, Android 14

Is anyone else noticing a lot of repeated posts in their feeds recently? Almost each time I go through my subscribed, local, or all feeds I am now seeing the same post from the same community multiple times. I'm using 'last 6 hours' as a filter if that helps.

Not sure if this is user error, a lemmy issue, a jerboa issue, or just inactive communities. A lot of communities I'm subscribed to, with many active members, show no posts more recent than a week or a month. At first I thought this was just a lack of activity, but recently I noticed that a post I had commented on was not visible from the community page (under either hot or new), although I was still getting replies and the post is visible from my comments page. As a test, I tried posts from /all/, and was quickly able to find one that is visible for me from /all/ but does not appear on its own community page under new - the post on politics@lemmy.world about a 271 page document on Vance (about an hour ago). All I can think is that either a lot of posts are being deleted (but somehow still showing up through other methods), or the community pages on jerboa are not updating even when explicitly told to refresh, either by dragging down from the top or selecting refresh from the community options menu. Anyone else encountering this problem or know what might be causing it? I've noticed the lack of posts on subscribed communities for a while and always assumed the communities were just inactive (which obviously makes lemmy much less useful for me), but the politics test is making me think it's something else. Edit: another point of reference, the newest post showing for me on this community (jerboa) is from a week ago, regarding switching language on gboard.

Anyone else have the issue when using jerboa that when they try to change input language (by holding the space button) the selection menu just flashes up and then disappears? Somewhat annoying.

For me, both of those functions open the link in the built-in browser. Is this a common problem?

I always thought I was seeing too many copies of the same post. Usually chalked it up to cross posting or reposts, but today I just saw the exact same post twice almost back to back, from the same user to the same community on the same instance. Is this a bug? What's going on?

Where's the button to set default comment sorting?

14
10

I wasn't 100% sure this was a problem, as I had noticed a lot more people commenting what appeared to be static image responses to comments. But there's this thread: https://lemmy.world/post/16932878 which makes it easy to be sure that in fact they are definitely GIFs, and they don't play when you click on them. It just opens the first frame of the GIF like a static image.

I've noticed with the last 2-3 versions of the app (currently 0.0.69, nice); the app crashes 2/3rds of the time when returning to it from being in the background. Open the app, switch to another app, switch back a couple min later and it closes then reopens as if you'd just started it for the first time today (losing whatever post you had open). Curious if others are experiencing this? Android 14, One UI 6.1

I done goofed up. I hit the 'block user' option instead of the 'go to user' option (need glasses) and I can't now find an option to unblock them. Is there one?

Number of up, number of down, and total score next to the heart, that's the perfect way to display that, well done.

I thought something was causing people to double post more recently, but after testing voting on some examples, I'm pretty sure posts are getting duplicated by the app.

Since recently (2-7 days, dunno) my Jerboa crashes when I hit those bars in the corner that let you "sort by...". Honestly I have no clue how to report such a thing, sorry if I'm messing it up rn. Shoutouts to everyone making this app work!

Since the last release, I find that gifs won't play in Jerboa anymore. For example, [this comment](https://lemmy.world/comment/10622852) just appears as a static image for me, even when I click on it. Do you see the same behavior? Edit: solved by user merde alors: >did you enable "auto play GIFs" in settings>look&feel ? Then close and reopen the app and that should fix it.

Text rearranges so its kerning appears slightly off when scrolling past the bottom of the page. I find it more noticeable looking at the video than in this gif, but it's still not a *big* deal.

I had ticked the Hide Votes box since I started using Jerboa but after I opened the app today posts show votes as tiny text above the post (pretty sure it used to be bigger and next to the upvote button) And I cant find a setting to hide votes anywhere

22

Additional info, I checked via the web in the instance doesn't appear to have any problems showing the upvote down vote counts, it is just in the main screen on jeroba. If I click a post, I can see the current score in the upper right.

I'm having trouble seeing the points and I noticed that they're a dull gray and I believe tinier than they used to be. Has anyone else having trouble reading the points in the smaller new font or is it update panic mode and I'm not acclimatized yet?

When I click links in lemmy comments that explicitly include http in the url, the resulting page is always https. To me, the preferred behavior would be to default to https if no protocol is specified, but to respect the user's preference if given. Most of the time, there is no downside to changing to https, but some sites will result in an error if they don't properly support https (I've encountered this when incorrectly typing a url before, but as it was not recent I don't recall the details), and in rare cases the same domain name may serve different content on http vs https, making the ability to specify when linking desirable. For example, http://xkcdsw.com is an archive of fan-edited comics, while https://xkcdsw.com is some kind of crypto site. While obviously that's dodgy on the site end, it's also strange to be completely unable to link the former without telling people to manually remove the s. Is this redirecting happening on the app level, or the instance level, or something else? It's not unique to me, as I was first alerted to it by replies that were confused at my links not going where I said they went. **Edit: to be clear, my question is whether Jerboa changes all http links to https links and if so why. The two responses so far do not address this question. If you wish to instead focus on whether the links I provided as an example work the way I claimed, then at least visit them first (using a browser for the http, as jerboa may change the url). If you wish to explain to me what a protocol is, first note that I already referred to the concept by name in my original post. However, my question is what is causing http links to be opened as https links.** Edit 2: when this post was about 6 hours old, xkcdsw fixed its weird configuration (I talked with two9a about it over mastodon). So that example no longer applies, but if interested there are comments below confirming that it wasn't just me.

With most links it goes to the browser version which plays within Jerboa, but with YouTube video links it always takes me away to the YouTube app. Can it not do that please? Thanks

When you click on an image and double tap to zoom, it zooms to the microscopic level or is it just me?

https://lemmy.dbzer0.com/post/20017025 This post for example has so many posts and comments linked in it for other Lemmy comments and posts and jerboa show "couldn't find comment or post or user" or it just simply goes to homescree. . This is a regular behavior and I'd appreciate if the devs solved it once and for all if they got time cheers. In fact I just realized the linked post too don't work well that is a good example and proves my point I suppose .

I have typed a longer comment before and then accidentally pressed the "back" button on my smartphone before I posted it. The comment was sadly lost and the time I invested was wasted. I haven't seen an option, which I could enable, such that Jerboa would show me a prompt whether I really want to go back, if I haven't posted the comment yet. Did I miss it? If not, feel invited to see this as a feature request. (:
