  • What was "the incident" at your work place?
  • popekingjoe popekingjoe Now 100%

There are two that come to mind for me. I work at a big box retailer that sells a lotta different stuff.

    1. One of our front end managers' car caught fire randomly one night. I don't actually know what caused it though but it was kind of a big deal. Thankfully no one was hurt.

    2. Years ago, we had a frozen stocker who was pretty bad at his job, and was also a racist little shit. He worked with another guy who was a light skinned black dude (who was a very good stocker), and while they were normally fine, one day our terrible stocker got upset over something one day and called him a slur. It wasn't received well, and some shit went down, but nothing serious at this point.

Now I mentioned that terrible stocker was terrible. Management had reprimanded him a few times already, so on this particular night where he was doing very badly, there was no more room for conversation, so he was fired. The firing manager was this super cool African fella. The firing was not received well, and caused terrible stocker to lose his shit. He stormed out of the office, shouting racial slurs at everyone he saw, and ended up cutting his hand with his box cutter. He then proceeded to smear his blood all over the frozen doors and then ran outside and smeared his blood all over the firing manager's car. The police were called and he was arrested. No idea what happened to him afterwards. It was pretty wild.

In the earlier days of Plasma 6, it would crash on me when waking from sleep, so I had a small script that would basically restart plasmashell when waking so I didn't have to wait the several seconds for the system to realize that it was frozen before I had a functional desktop.

  • This one was a little over a decade ago, when plasma TVs were still manufactured and sold, and LCD TVs were still catching in terms of awesomeness. I was a young, bright-eyed electronics associate working for the big "blue and yellow save money" company. This particular day was a steady but peaceful day, and I was working the counter, cashing people out and directing them to various areas in the department where they could find things. I had just finished ringing a customer out for a PS3 game when a fella walks up to the counter and the following exchange took place: *Strange Customer*: "Hey man... do you sell TVs?" *Me*: *caught off guard by the question, I slowly turned to the TV wall that sat in full view roughly 30ft away, filled with 30+ different TV models, then slowly turned back to him* "Sir, I don't think I can help you." *SC*: "Oh alright man, no problem." And then he just left. It remains, to this day, the most bizarre customer interaction I have ever had, and I would not be surprised if it was a part of a YouTube prank video. I've been at the store I work at for over 13 years now, and nothing has topped this one for weirdness.
