These companies are the worst. They are responsible for a huge chunk of the emissions fueling the climate change we are facing. (https://www.climatechangenews.com/2023/05/19/study-fossil-fuel-firms-owe-209bn-a-year-for-climate-damage/)
They promise change and then just sweep it under the rug. (https://www.theguardian.com/business/2023/feb/01/shell-renwable-energy-spending-sec-global-witness) Even worse is the fact that these companies are misleading the world with a concerted effort on who is to blame. I also work in IT and found writing down stuff helps me solve problems and remember things better. So I got an e-ink tablet to write the stuff I want to write, but I'm still able to view the stuff I've written and it also got OCR if I really need it in a better formatable way.

My guess is, that Meta will try to control the public image of the name Mastodon. Yeah the Software itself is OpenSource and protected under AGPL-3, but they still can buy Mastodon GmbH and use that to tie their name to Mastodon for the broad public.

Have a look at an nvme ssd and an enclosure for it. I’m using a icy box one for mine. This way you can get 2tb storage for about 130€. There are a ton of options regarding enclosures. If your budget allows you should get two for additional backup security.

The goal for me right now is to reduce/eliminate reddit usage as it wasn't providing anything to my life. I was just scrolling and wasting time on mostly useless content.
So far lemmy has been more interesting and engaging, additionally I prefer that it's more aligned with the open source movement.

If you want to learn the insides you should have a look at k8s the hard way: https://github.com/kelseyhightower/kubernetes-the-hard-way
The awesome-k8s repo is also a good starting point for everything related to k8s: https://github.com/tomhuang12/awesome-k8s-resources
I just catched myself looking at reddit again. To remind myself not to use reddit in the next few days (or never again if I succeed) I added it to my uBlock filter list. Additionally I deleted all reddit apps from my phone. What's your strategy on how to avoid reddit?
