In China, you don't leave until your boss leaves. It's kind of an unspoken rule. Bosses typically work very hard and stay late so therefore everyone else does. I knew someone who used to leave before her boss, at the official finishing time of 6pm every day, and she was told that by doing this she will never be promoted, but she hated the job and planned to quit anyway.
