Do you think VPN companies will start to feel pressure from legal/corporate powers to crackdown on pirating?

With the resurgence of pirating, do you think there will be a “response” from the powers that be? In general, what would that look like? Specifically, do you think VPN companies based in the US or friendly countries will start to feel legal or corporate pressure to stop letting people use their services to download copyrighted material? I just feel like these things always ebb and flow.

Building a budget Blender rig

I’m looking for recommendations on parts/builds to use in a budget blender rig. I’ll be using it to make models/rigging for three.js web apps. I know this is probably something that has been covered in a million places online, but after spending the weekend waiting 30 seconds for every click in blender I’m ready for a little chit chat and hope the community will oblige and share some tips on building a cheap but solid rig. Fine with sourcing used parts on Craigslist/online etc. I just want the best rig I can buy for the cheapest amount. Would be using Linux fo sho! Edit: I live in the US. Don’t have a hard budget in mind, just trying to be crafty. Edit 2: I’m basically looking for the “used Honda civic” version of a blender rig. Started freelancing this year and haven’t made the big bucks yet, but hit the point where I need something to get work done Thanks! <3

Best way to do human skin for a model that will be used for web in GLB format?

Hey! I have a human model that I have put together for a Three.js web app. The model will be a GLTF/GLB file and will ultimately be compressed with Draco. I’m at the point where I am creating the skin material and wanted to come and ask the pros for some tips! I’m looking for some pointers on the best way to create skin material (for a black person if that matters) that would be good for performance and file size? I’ve been researching on my own, have set up some skin shaders, and considered using a texture map, but need help figuring out what the best overall move would be for my specific use case. Help joining two objects together seamlessly

Hello I was wondering if someone could give me some advice on how to do a thing in blender I created a human head model in FaceBuilder add on and I have a separate premade human body model. I positioned, scaled and joined them together, but there are some small gaps between the two models What’s the best way to fix this? Any tools or tips to get me moving in the right direction would be amazing I’ve been researching the docs, YouTube, chatgpt but getting confused at all the different ways to do things and the different versions of the program. I live in a one party area. I’ve long wanted to set up a solution to seamlessly record video or audio calls and store them Seeing how everything went down with Apollo and Reddit made me want to revisit the idea. I was impressed Apollo had the foresight to record the calls. The way reddit lied and tried to manipulate is the exact sort of thing that I want to protect myself against in the future. Any ideas? Has anyone here run linux on an xbox 360?

There was a few projects years ago that put linux on Xbox 360s: free60 and linux xbox I was curious if anyone here has done this? What was your experience like? Why would I want to do this you ask? I’ve been wanting to build linux computers out of junk parts for various reasons. I see Xbox 360s at goodwill for less than $20 all the time. The fact that it has a gpu is a bonus too (I recently started programming shaders). Alternatively, if you have made any funky diy linux computers I’d love to hear about it Thanks

How is a company like Reddit “not profitable” yet?

Beyond spez (and the fact that he is a greedy little pig boy), I’m curious about the corporate dynamics that prevent a company like Reddit from being profitable. From an outside perspective, they make hundreds of millions per year via advertising, their product is a relatively simple (compared to industries that need a lot of capital to build their product), and their content is created and moderated for free by users. Could any offer some insights or educated guesses? Additionally, I’m curious how this all ties into the larger culture of Silicon Valley tech companies in the 2010s.
