I'm pretty fond of these little Velcro straps I got from Amazon that are like 10cm x 30cm, you use them to push all your computer cables into them so you can neaten them up. I've got several of them strapped back to back and it's a pretty decent solution (and being Velcro you can just pull it apart later on)

I'd also argue that regardless of the server size, it takes literal seconds to explain why your account is getting banned, it's absolutely within the realm of reason that if your system allowed automated signups that you as an admin have an obligation to not be a shitcunt and at least give a reason as to why you're banning accounts.

Great work mate ♥️

I still occasionally run across the odd dodgy website that tried to disable zooming (along with other oddities like trying to disable right clicking on desktop) and it feels honestly that most of these annoyances come about because some asshole in the company (the CEO, lead designer, marketer, whatever) sees any changes to their websites from the user as "ruining the experience", disregarding the whole concept of accessibility in the modern web

Always good to see more people looking into platforms besides Twitter, plenty of great places out there
Diablo 4, Path of Exile, and the rest of the ARPG genre has competition in the mega-ambitious Last Epoch, built by its Reddit community and heading towards 1.0.

Probably a good idea not to trust anything at face value from this bloke, he's the dodgy discount IRL version of Tony Stark
About four months ago, I ditched my Steam Deck for Asus' ROG Ally. But with some distance, I'm going back to Valve's handheld. Here's why.

It's a shame it's not written in a PHP framework or something that's more common. Plenty of devs have been helping about contributing to kbin development, it sounds like it's a lack of manpower on Lemmy's end that's contributing to this

For an "experimental vaccine" it's had a pretty amazing job at limiting the severity of covid and reducing deaths. If only all experiments were that successful

I thought the selling point behind most Twitter like services is that it's focused on negative positioning. E.g. things that are negative focused get more attention and engagement

The best take on here. The reasonable one that still highlights how much better it is compared to other mainstream services

Gamers Nexus (another highly respected tech YouTuber) called out LTT for their mistakes and performances over the last few years, the overall point being that they're moving too fast and causing multiple mistakes in their content.
There's a current controversy with a company called Billet who gave LTT a custom water block to test and instead of testing it properly with the 3090 it was made for, they tried it with a 4090 card (and it obviously didn't work)
Linus doubled down on their results saying it wouldn't have mattered anyway because it's a rubbish product and no one should buy it (which came across very poorly, why even agree to test a product if you know your going to trash on it)
The whole situation specifically looks like it's triggered some upcoming changes in LMG and hopefully the outcome is better, more accurate video content
What are our experiences with Android tabs nowadays? How's the software side of Android going compared to how to was years ago?
Upper Echelon gaming is getting sued. This frivolous lawsuit is a clear attempt to silence his great investigative journalism. Appalling
But Bing’s AI app can bring GPT-4 to Android right now.
A power connector design halfway between 12VHPWR and 12V-2x6 standards has appeared again.
What motherboards are you guys using for your high end CPUs? I stuck with a standard Z790 Gigabyte board for my 13900k. The main selling points I found when I was looking was that more expensive boards usually supported higher memory frequencies / timings and provided extra headers and M.2 slots. I've got my system running 6400MHZ DDR5 memory and by the looks of it, once you go over 7k or beyond the gaming performance seems negligible? What actual tangible benefits are the 500/600/700 dollar boards bringing?
There's a heap of devs working on bug fixes and improvements to the kbin.social website. If you run into a bug or find something strange, it would be great if you can report it on codeberg. With third party apps going away, I'm expecting an influx of new people who will join kbin.social over the next few weeks. The project has taken shape rapidly and it's exciting to see the progress that's been made. I've been working through a range of UI/UX issues focusing on mobile but any reports, along with images or use cases are super handy to people looking at the issues list.
The third party API changes come into effect tomorrow **(1/7/2023)** so now's a good time to either **purge or edit your existing content**. There's still no guarantee that Reddit wont just revert your changes (which they've notably done to a few people so far), but at least editing your comments before you delete your account is one way you can let them know how dogshit their handling of this situation has been. This thing was as easy as adding it to your bookmark bar on desktop, signing into old.reddit.com and pressing on it. It's a shame to lose years of great posts and comments but with how poorly Reddit has engaged with the community over this, there's no point sticking around.
Anyone here been using the CableMod angled high power connector? Anyone had any issues with it on their their end? Finally picked it up today, it looks like most of the melting issues are still from it not being seated correctly
Hey guys. I've been trying to get kbin.social running on my local machine [outlined here](https://codeberg.org/Kbin/kbin-core/wiki#clone-repo-1) but I'm running into issues [issue with kbin install](https://imgur.com/a/GFFmfBt) I've installed Docker Desktop for windows and I can see the containers being created but I'm getting errors on the front-end build stage, I've put it in a ticket here but not sure what else to do. [https://codeberg.org/Kbin/kbin-core/issues/368](https://codeberg.org/Kbin/kbin-core/issues/368) I've already got node, npm and yarn installed, I've done the following and I'm not making much progress `npm install yarn build ` When I view the site locally its throwing errors. I'm pretty new to docker and even yarn so I'm not sure what I should do next, any big brain thoughts from you guys by chance?
I'm looking at getting [kbin](https://codeberg.org/Kbin/kbin-core) installed locally so I can make some UI / UX changes, but it's a different tech stack than I'm used to. Anyone here gotten it to run locally and can offer any advice on the difficulty involved? I don't have a spare server so I'd be kind at getting it to run locally on my windows machine
Hey guys I know that [@ernest](https://kbin.social/u/@ernest) has been heaps busy working on the infrastructure / stability of kbin.social but i'd be keen to hear peoples opinions on some potential UI/UX changes **(I tried to upload these screenshots in using the media upload tool so these appear inline but it didn't seem to work for me)** Here's the website how it looks currently [kbin before](https://imgur.com/a/jBYovW6) Overall its pretty good, but there's a few places where we could compress the layout so we can see more posts at once. I remember reading somewhere that eventually the site will get some updated styling, but I think below would be a good upgrade in the meantime. [kbin after](https://imgur.com/a/4mYUUCa) This mostly involved moving the **upvote** / **downvote** arrows and adjusting the padding and margins of the title, description and a few other section. Its basically all CSS changes I've done locally It's just a concept and other areas like the size of the buttons might need to be tweaked, but what do we think? Here's a sample of a post with an image, right now the image doesnt really fit the layout, often stretching itself [kbin image layout before](https://imgur.com/a/EBlBLp7) This change brings the image full width to the top, so at least its a bit more viewable. [Kbin image layout after](https://imgur.com/a/BhK4XWH) I'd be keen to give it a go polishing up some of these sections (mostly so using it on mobile is easier) but unsure if they go too far / if [@ernest](https://kbin.social/u/@ernest) has an overall design goal that hes got in mind
I've been looking for the GitHub page for kbin.social but I'm still new with the fediverse, is this the correct place? [https://github.com/ernestwisniewski/kbin](https://github.com/ernestwisniewski/kbin) I've tried have a look around via search but I can't seem if this is the right place?
With the discontinuation of most of the third party reddit apps, it looks like Relay might try a subscription model. They seem to think a 2-3 dollar a month subscription might cover the API costs. I've got no confidence in Reddit going forward, they may just up the price, introduce even more stringent conditions on third party apps, but for people who might be tempted to stay, would you consider doing this monthly subscription approach?
