I think of politicians in a way that has an analogy: the YouTube algorithm.

I've heard people say that whenever someone complains about the "algorithm," they should replace the word "algorithm" with "audience." For example, “The algorithm makes me upload every day” or “The algorithm favours videos with ridiculous thumbnails and clickbait titles.” In reality, the algorithm is simply delivering what the audience wants to watch.

Similarly, these bizarre politicians who say ridiculous things gain attention because it works. Somewhere, someone is changing their vote based on this kind of rhetoric. If it didn't resonate, they wouldn't say it, and their party wouldn't give them a platform that ultimately makes them look bad. So in a way, don't blame the politicians directly: blame the people who pay attention to them.

We've been counting down to this for years now and we're finally on the other side of coal power. Great! 🥳 Update: it produced its last energy on 30th Sept and now the uk is officially coal-free :D

I currently work from home 100%, as my team's office is a 4.5 hour drive away. This has worked for the last year but I'm now thinking of trying to do a 1-2 days a week in a paid office space. I sent out about 7-8 enquiries, and to my surprise only two got back to me. I visited one for a viewing, and am scheduled to view the second tomorrow but tbh I think it will be very expensive so unlikely to be suitable. I'm pretty introverted so I'm not crazy about working next to strangers in a hotdesking space, but as it's the cheapest option I'll see how it goes. I'd prefer a private room with a closed door but the prices are hilariously high at £300-500+ per month. I guess there's a market at those prices. I found an office at a good location a 45-minute cycle away, which is great. It has a locked cycle shed, stocked kitchen, shower, and good internet, for £95/month for 8 days/month. This seems like a reasonable price, although it'd be about 5% of my income, but I think I'd be happy there, although the actual coworking space itself is small with only 5 desks. What annoys me is that it's very difficult to find prices for these places. They all want you to get in contact and speak personally. I wish I could just see "this place has X facilities for £Y per month and here are pictures", like rightmove or something. Does anyone here use places like this? Anything to look out for, or good/bad experiences? Specifically, is there a better way to find pricing other than calling each company individually?

Demand is 27.1 GW at the time of this post. 3.6 GW (13%) is coming from gas; 2.7GW (10%) from nuclear; a net 1.6% is coming from imports. Source: https://grid.iamkate.com/
