Suggestions?

I have no business picking up a paintbrush I"m a engineer by trade. But I wanted this image out of my head. I call it Mondays... the nonsense we build in our heads when hit tap our fight/flight system. I am going to use this as a base and overlay more detail, a lighting strike down the center ( you can see the shadow I have on the boat I'll try and position it properly) and add some massive wave starting to tumble at the top with water misting away as it does in seconds long free fall. Any suggestions? I don't know anything about mixing colors or techiques or anything, but my main goal is to have fun. This is giving me more respect for artists. Tjhanks!

Is there a way to hold a canvas solidly in place without covering the edges?

I'm thinking of an easel with a way to screw into the back of the canvas so it hovers in place giving access to all sides. Or maybe a reverse clamp that pushes against the inner edges of the back of the canvas that connects to an easel. The problem is that when I paint the bottom of a canvas I need to wait for the top to dry and then flip it. Or I need to hang the canvas, but it isn't held solidly in place.

What makes acrylic paint smooth?

I'm experimenting with paints. I've found that Golden heavy body paints are thick and useful for texture. But, liquitex soft body paints feel practically like ink in that I can easily draw lines using a liner brush. Just adding water to the thick paint doesn't achieve the same thing. Is there some sort of material I can add to thick paint to achieve the same effect so I don't need to stock up on multiple types of every color?
