Fuck Cars

As we have seen a rise of toxic behavior we have decided that it would be time for some rules. We would love other ideas too and feel free to discuss it here. Also we are thinking about, to put in an Automoderation tool that could help us a lot. Because its currently not easy for us to scan every new comments and reports are rare currently. We want your opinons on that too, because its important to us that this community is based on the people here. The shortlist that we have currently as idea for the Rules: - Be Kind to each other - No Hate speech - Dont harass people - No Racism, sexism and any other discrimination - Dont attack other people just because they have differnt opinions (Stay on Topic) - Do not double post

In the absence of a flair system on lemmy yet, let's try to make it easier to scan through posts by type in here by using tags: - [meta] for discussions/suggestions about this community itself - [article] for news articles - [blog] for any blog-style content - [video] for video resources - [academic] for academic studies and sources - [discussion] for text post questions, rants, and/or discussions - [meme] for memes - [image] for any non-meme images - [misc] for anything that doesn't fall cleanly into any of the other categories I have copied that idea from another community. I forgot which one so sorry! Feel free to discuss that here, I would like that change because it makes it a lot easier

You're walking home late at night from the bar because you've had 11 shots of tequila but you still made the conscious decision not to drive for the safety of others. You're crossing a stroad. Someone "in a hurry" decide to run the red light and hits you at 70 km/h (because of course they were speeding, why wouldn't they?), doesn't see you because you're hunched over while you're walking and it's really dark and the person is driving a giant SUV with shit visibility. Cars are one of the largest source of fatal pedestrian accidents in a major city. How much more likely are you to get into an accident if you're drunk and is less able to pay attention to cars breaking the rules and putting you in danger? Walking safely in most cities is a task you need to be sober for because you have to walk super defensively.

so get it while you can. thought it'd be relevant, downvote/remove this if you want lol Example: If you bought the HHR route for Train Sim World 2, clicking on the "install game" button on Steam for the TSW5 free starter pack (no, you don't have to install it) will automatically give you the TSW5 version of the HHR route with no further steps; if you're on PlayStation, you do need to do the same process for TSW4 first.

>The law, Global News has learned, is currently set to be titled the *Reducing Gridlock and Saving You Time* Act and could be presented when the legislature returns at the end of October. Primarily aimed at drivers, it will include new provincial requirements on bike lanes. >... >The specifics of the legislation have not been made public but sources told Global News said **the government was considering restrictions on towns and cities removing existing lanes of traffic to create bike lanes.** Absolute clowns.

Ontarians, I need your help. This week I was pulled over by the police for having a kid's seat on my e-bike. I was informed this is illegal in Ontario as Sec. 38 of the HTA doesn't allow anyone under the age of 16 to be on a power-assisted or motor assisted bicycle. In 2021 the Moving Ontarians More Safely Act came out that separated power-assisted bicycles (like e-bikes) from motor assisted bicycles (like dirt bikes). This will finally allow child seats on e-bikes. Please call your MPP to get this bill that passed and assented 3 years ago into law. Details on the wording of the current and assented laws: currently the Highway Traffic Act, section 38, states : "No person who is the owner or is in possession or control of a motor assisted bicycle or power-assisted bicycle shall permit a person who is under the age of 16 years to ride on, drive or operate the motor assisted bicycle or power-assisted bicycle on a highwau" the Moving Ontarians More Safely Act, 2021, S.O. 2021, C. 26 - Bill 282 splits this into a few sections: "No person under the age of 14 years shall operate a power-assisted bicycle described in clause (a) of the definition" "No person under the age of 16 years shall operate a power-assisted bicycle described in clause (b) or (c)" and the new section 38.1: "No person under the age of 16 years shall ride on, drive or operate a motor assisted bicycle on a highway" From my perspective this will make e-bikes legal to have kids seats; and separate the class away from gas and electric dirt bikes.

Quick scanlation from Finnish comic book Pahkasika, issue 9, published in 1981. Modern update: Flight AY286 + HSL's metropolitan P train will actually get you to Helsinki in 1h 55m. Ah ha! So the trains fix this shit! However, as a Northern witchy biaatch, I'm still flabbergasted by the fact that Jyväskylä is in the southern Finland and they don't even get a Pendolino link to Helsinki. We do, here in Oulu. Please do get better, scrubs. \* Edit: Fucked up the last line in the scanlation. Jyväskylä to Helsinki, obviously. \*\* Wait Lemmy let me also replace uploaded fuck-ups? This is the best platform ever

I often see people in the comments acting like having a fast or loud car immediately makes your dick smaller or that you have ED. And people talk about owning a car as if they've never gone above 40 MPH and are terrified to do so. For context I live in a city with actually ok mass transit, don't own a car, and prefer to bike/take the train whenever possible. Trains, trolleys, bikes, and feet are the best forms of transportation imo. That being said, body shaming or making fun of people with physical or mental issues (that may be no fault of their own) is just shitty. It makes this community look shitty. I hate reading comments about "loud car small dick this" or "fast car ED that". It's unnecessary. You can shit on asshole drivers without having to stoop that low. Secondly, some women enjoy cars as well; be more creative. Finally, don't act like cars can't be fun. I'm all for phasing out the automobile and revolutionizing transport by returning to the ways of olde, but cars are fun. I understand some of you are grandparents and don't like someone revving their straight pipes mustang down your block on a Saturday morning. That's completely reasonable. But my god does this community act like you can't have fun in a car. I absolutely enjoy loud and fast and powerful cars, because that's an incredible work of engineering and it simply can be fun. Going fast can be fun. Being in a car that purrs like a lion can be fun. Going offroading or drifting or racing or anything in a car can be fun. We won't convince people to see our side by shitting on the things they enjoy. We convince people to try and see things from our point of view by actually looking through their perspective first, and acknowledging that while cars can be fun they are not sustainable. ETA: Some people seem to think I think public roads should still be for cars. Never did I say that. I think the appropriate place for cars is the track. I would love to convert all the roads in my city to a mixture of bike and pedestrian lanes with trolleys running down the median. But cars can be fun and a track day can absolutely be a great time.

I couldn't find an English language source, so here are some excerpts from the German one, translated with deepl [Stuff in brackets are additions by me]: > Wiesbanden bus driver Antonio Lopes recently got a yellow button next to his steering wheel: if he sees a parking offender blocking the bus lane or a bus stop, he can trigger the front camera. >[...] >The images are sent to the traffic authorities. Drivers face a fine of around 70 euros. If they park in an environmental lane that is only intended for buses and bicycles, they will also receive a point in Flensburg. [Collect too many points and you loose your drivers licence]
