A New Documentary Traces How Piracy Overhauled the Music Industry

Probably my all-time favourite non fiction title. It made me feel part of something bigger than just thinking of my teenage self as some lowly degenerate trawling zero-day torrent sites.

  • 4ish years ago when I bought a house I was convinced not to get a house inspection, would it be crazy to get one now just to make sure it's all good?
  • nevernevermore nevernevermore Now 100%

our inspection saved us money. they found a crack in the outdoor tiling sealant that was retaining water. we spent $200 on their services, but their report helped us regotiate $5000 off our initial offer, which we had repaired for ~$500. for anybody tossing it up, it's a no-brainer.

  • FOSS scanner app surpasses Microsoft for usability
  • nevernevermore nevernevermore Now 100%

I’ll go out on a limb here and suggest that most of the FOSS alternatives I’ve discovered in the last 12-18 months have been just as good if not better than paid alternatives. The issue they face mostly is lack of visibility. I couldn’t believe my eyes when I discovered Beat for screenplay writing for the first time.

I think it’s more about the “non-consensual” part of the first sentence in the article. Ai generated porn of nobody in particular=probably fine. Ai generated porn of a real life person=probably unethical.

Do you pay for premium? I do and I feel like the experience I have on the platform is leaps and bounds better than what people describe on a free account. I wouldn’t put it past Google to actively make the product worse when you aren’t paying.

  • what is your experience with online check-in, qr codes, kiosks and printed boarding passes?
  • nevernevermore nevernevermore Now 100%

Hey friend, there’s no need to fear the possibilities. If you are the person named on the ticket you will be able to board. Tickets nowadays can be scanned a multitude of ways, most airlines I’ve flown with the same scanner can read QR codes, barcodes and whatever the SMS style code is called. This isn’t about reducing options for you, it’s about increasing them. If you feel more comfortable with a printed boarding pass then they will be happy for you to do that.

But in answer to your question, there’s nothing special about the cardboard the passes get printed on, it’s just to make it less likely that you’ll lose it or throw it away accidentally. But even then, you can just present ID at the ticket gate, they’ll verify that you’re who you say you are and let you on. So what I’m saying is; give it a shot. You’ve got nothing to lose.

I've definitely seen The Prestige (2006) the most in my adult life, it was my taste-barometer when showing a new friend or date when I was in my 20s. But we had the The Mummy (1999) recorded from TV on a VHS growing up and I recked that shit. I probably watched that film 30-40 times, between childhood days off sick and rewatching intermitently in adulthood. Honourable mention to Love Actually; thanks mum.

I'm trying to find a fediverse community that might be able to help. I have a haugene/transmission-openvpn docker container on my Synology NAS with my PIA VPN account details and it works perfectly. I've recently just purchase 2 years of Proton Unlimited and am trying to compose a new project container with my Proton VPN account, but I can't get it to launch at all. I've been searching the github repo for advice but everything suggested hasn't worked for me. Anybody happen to have the same config as this and have any advice? Happy to pastebin my docker-compose.yml etc if it helps. EDIT: Okay well I checked my logs and found I had AUTH\_FAILED.... turns out I wasn't using my OpenVPN / IKEv2 credentials... yikes
