    • Endless Sky -- open-source space game. I actually contributed to it back in the day; a date format option and a full-blown storyline about an author. Unfortunately the storyline is in development hell cause I lost motivation to work on it.
    • OpenTTD -- really awesome, with NewGRFs and mods you can have a somewhat "realistic" rail experience (as in, using actual real-life trains. Obviously a pixel game isn't the most "realistic" with graphics)

And I don't check my email every single day. Scary.

Nitter ended up getting their domain back though.. However, the good ending doesn't always happen.

Thankfully I don't have anything "controversial" on my website.

Just basic information about myself and maybe a thing or two I've done on the Internet.

Someday if I get the time or the server resources, I'd add subdomains to it to host other stuff, for example "lemmy.example.com", while "example.com" would just be the basic information, and probably a directory to all the other subdomain stuff.

I understand why you feel that they are "phishing questions", but:

    1. The question was using Katrina as an example to further convey what it was that I was asking about.
    2. Someone replying to the question could have not provided a name at all; only their feeling about having the same name.
    3. With eight billion people on Earth, there are bound to be hundreds of thousands of people with that name, making any form of tracing highly difficult and impractical.

Actually, you need to go build a time travel machine and recreate the Internet and all its infastructure from scratch if you want to have true ownership of your domain. Or you know, just reinvent the Internet in a premodern society or something, idk.

Did Njalla keep the domain forever or did they not renew it such that you could simply go straight to the registrar to take it back?

Additionally, what did you do exactly with the domain that may have motivated Njalla to just.. do such a thing?

    6
  • For those unaware, Njalla is an anonymous domain registrar though I'm hoping many of you already know. What are your thoughts on Njalla? I've got a domain with them already and renewal is coming up this August, but I'm kinda feeling doubt with their Trustpilot reviews. 1. Is Trustpilot even accurate? 2. Who are all those one-star reviewers? 3. Is Njalla a scam? Has anyone here had good experiences with them? The website there is just my personal website. There's not much "shady" stuff on it ([lemuria.ph](https://lemuria.ph)).

I'm not really interested in tracking you, lol.

You don't really meet the criteria - I already know from you replying to this thread and my comments, that you are still well and alive - and determining that is the main goal of an investigation. So it would be redundant.

That's just the act of lurking, it doesn't say anything about the feelings you get while lurking.

I am a Tagalog speaker too (but I had to look usyoso up in the dictionary lol)

    6
  • The *dormant person feeling* is a feeling I find myself having on the Internet often. Casually browsing the Internet, I find myself reading through threads and websites that don't look like they've been updated since 2009, or 2010, or ${currentYear - 10}. Profiles that haven't posted in so long either. When I see just how long ago their last activity was, it gives me the feeling, which I can only describe as a mix of concern, curiosity, and empathy. In my head, I go "I wonder how they are doing now", and "are they alive and well?". Sometimes I find myself "investigating" them or looking them up to see if they are still alive just so I can satiate this feeling of mine. Do other people experience the dormant person feeling too? Is it wrong to have such a feeling? But hey, if I feel the dormant person feeling, it does show that I do have empathy for strangers, a good quality, I suppose.

Hi, I'm a casual linguistics nerd (no degrees), speaking Philippine English with heavy American influence. My accent of English has pre-nasal /æ/ raising and I've caught myself raising it in other places like before /g/. When I look at English language learning videos (out of curiosity) I have not found anyone mention /æ/ raising in them. Why is this case?

I have started listening to random American city council meetings lately for white noise. Since they're all bureaucratic-flavored boredom anyway.

(Fiction) How to Alter Someone's Reading Preferences in Matrix Manager

Starting off your simulated citizens on the right literature can be ver y difficult! However, Matrix Manager makes it easier by connecting to the servers of the simulation we live in. Thanks to a team of skilled human programmers who found vulnerabilities in the Matrix, Matrix Manager is able to manipulate the simulation according to its user's will. However, the complexity of the Matrix and by extension, human society at large means that even basic MM operations are difficult to do and require years of training. In fact, certain large-scale operations such as deleting countries, dissolving corporations, or creating new traditions are completely impossible due to the fact that the simulation has not yet been reverse-engineered for these operations. Thankfully, an operation as simple as changing a person's reading preferences is easy! To change someone's reading preferences, you need their Matrix Person ID. To acquire a Matrix Person ID (MPID), read the "Get someone's Matrix Person ID" guide. MPIDs are required for the vast majority of basic personality modification operations. An abridged version of the linked guide is as follows: 1. Compile a list of the person's identifiers or general information. Using a full legal name (this includes middle names) with all name components has the most precision and will make acquiring a Matrix Person ID significantly easier. * Plugins for computing a Matrix Person ID from other types of identifiers other than a full legal name (e.g. Wikidata identifier, Reddit, Discord username, Facebook page, website URL, initials, and even complex riddles) are bundled with Matrix Manager and can be installed through the MM Plugin Manager. 1. Open the Matrix Person ID Manager (MPIM). The MPIM interface is simple; a text box accepting a full legal name. Plugins will add additional text boxes to the bottom for other identifiers. 1. Wait 30-40 seconds for MM to perform the necessary queries on the Matrix and exploit security holes as necessary. 1. A list of results will then appear. To further aid searching, the person's age, full date of birth in YYYY-MM-DD format, and other information. To the right is a field saying "Matrix Person ID". This will be a 256 character base64 string. Copy it. Now that you have an MPID, open the Person Manager and navigate to Preferences > Favorites > Literature. Several settings are available. A limited list is as follows: * `favoriteWork`: A person's favorite text. If it is not a book, but rather a story, article, or online publication that does not have an ISBN, If null, this variable is an alias for `favoriteBook`. However, `favoriteWork` and `favoriteBook` are not mutually exclusive and can coexist. * `favoriteBook`: A person's favorite book. The field is an ISBN. * `favoriteAuthor`: A person's favorite author. The field is a Matrix Person ID. * `favoriteGenre`: A person's favorite genre of book. (British English users: Be advised that Matrix Manager's variable display uses American English spellings.) If the items show up as an array, the first item in the array should be presumed to be the person's most favorite. Change these variables as necessary to modify the person's reading preferences and simply hit the Save button. The changes will be applied during the person's next sleep cycle. Matrix Manager saves updates only during a person's sleep as this is the time when the server's load is lowest and the likelihood of unintentional disruption low. If it is necessary that the reading preferences be updated immediately without waiting for the next sleep cycle, click the "Urgent Save" button. Urgent Save has a 0.000003901% chance of corrupting the person and effects vary from unwanted personality changes, full memory erasure, and *~~(redacted)~~*. Congratulations - you have changed someone's reading preferences. If you need to modify these preferences in bulk, see the Matrix Manager library and its C, C++, Python, C#, JavaScript, Java, Go, Julia, and Rust bindings and our Scripting Guide to develop simple scripts for bulk modification. Or, try the groundbreaking "SQLmatrix" plugin that lets you make global-scale changes with a few lines of SQL, courtesy of one of Matrix Manager's amazing developers. ~DISCLAIMER: Matrix Manager is not real software. This is experimental fiction in the form of a software manual.~
