was replying from mobile - so I'd like to add here... Great work on the texturing! The materials really look like their real life counterparts, perhaps even a bit more edible than supposed to. Which is a good thing.

Kbin, FUD, and Tribalism - Where do we go from here?

It finally happened: many Reddit 3rd party apps have officially shut down. With it comes an influx of users looking for a new place. With the influx come new points of view, new kinds of users with different expectations. This change is already [visible](https://kbin.social/m/kbinMeta/t/121302/This-shi-SUX), with obvious trolls and attention seekers throwing out bait. What if there is more to it however? Browsing casually I noticed more and more kbin posts [critical](https://vlemmy.net/post/414849) of its [development](https://apollo.town/post/34644), its functioning, and the speed at which [@ernest](https://kbin.social/u/ernest) is able to implement updates. I find it [odd](https://apollo.town/post/34644) that, while denouncing kbin for its current flaws in deployment (despite being clearly stated to be in alpha) the owner of that instance proceeds to praise Lemmy and wave away concerns regarding its devs who > > > (Lemmy devs) are willing to create a product that makes the entire internet better, and share it with everyone, for free, regardless of your beliefs. > > despite [having proven that their politics do affect their product](https://kbin.social/m/lemmyworld@lemmy.world/t/47012/-/comment/196579). *"Just defederate"* in my opinion also is not an argument. It's closing your eyes to a problem propagated by those who benefit from influence from the shadows - on both sides of the political spectrum. Hence my mention of **FUD** (Fear, Uncertainty, Doubt) and Tribalism. Pushing users towards a preferred platform (in this case, Lemmy) by seeding threadiverse posts with statements such as * kbin isn't ready * kbin won't have the same engagement as Lemmy * the single kbin dev [@ernest](https://kbin.social/u/ernest) doesn't have enough time/skill * it will never be as good as Reddit will just lead to Reddit 2.0 painted in red and yellow. As kbin users, we should combat this kind of behavior. We're all here for a better threadiverse, and a singular means of interacting will not be beneficial to its growth. The reason we're here is because we want a Reddit-like environment, not a single 'frontpage of the internet'. Tribalism in the threadiverse will get us nowhere fast. Perhaps it was unintentional that kbin was not federating properly with Lemmy instances. What I am afraid of is, knowing the track record of Lemmy devs, it follows a scary trajectory, reminiscent of a few tried and true tactics Reddit and [others have used before](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Embrace,_extend,_and_extinguish). I'd like to state that I am not unbiased. I am helping out with [Artemis](https://kbin.social/m/ArtemisApp), a kbin app currently in development. I do **not** want to support or make use of Lemmy for many reasons. However, I could not care less if someone is from a Lemmy instance, or if I interact with them in that same space. If I see Lemmy.ml/Lemmygrad.ml behind their name, I will be cautious of their intentions however. Let's hope we, not as 'rexxiters', 'kbinauts' or 'lemmings', but as **fediverse** users can *actually* create a product that makes the entire internet better, and share it with everyone, for free, regardless of our beliefs.

I have made an attempt at populating them, they’re not necessarily empty. There are reasons to scroll past entries other than content, i.e. the instance they’re on. Plenty of people ignore certain domains altogether.

I didn’t necessarily mean a direct comparison, but more the theming and the exploration / world building and storytelling. It’s far more rewarding than dodging boss attacks and whittling health down, like in fromsoft games.

Yes, but also no. I’ve also seen it compared to dragon age inquisition too. You’re the chosen one, but you suck.

There is no ‘git gud’ of reading boss animations, for example. The sword and sorcery theming does fit the dark souls theme, and exploration is rewarded. It’s on sale on Playstation at the moment, I got it for 5 euros.

  • Dragon's Dogma Dark Arisen is a wonderful game to sit down and immerse yourself in. I've been going at it the past few days, and it's surprising to me how this game embodies a lot of staples of FromSoft's games. Exploration is fairly unguided, apart from your pawns chiming in. Weapons and Gear are just as important as knowing when to fight or flee. Along with that comes the unapologetic difficulty. Fuck around and find out, really. Forgot to rest and save before venturing out? Good luck. ... Yes, I just ragequit after finishing the objective of opening a door and then dying to the cyclops guarding it... Just as I got it down to a quarer of its health. Should have run away. But I didn't.

I’m cautious, the remakes have been hit or miss. Zelda Link’s Awakening was well done but the frame rate was inexcusable. Pokemon Diamond/Pearl was a letdown… if anything we got the old one to emulate.

  • lavender lavender Now 100%

The primary thing with r/pics and its users is that they are creating/posting SFW quality content for free. They are an established platform with an audience, and the tradeoff is that the platform can be used for ads by its owner. This is all fair.

The main outrage against the blackout is now coming from people who usually scroll, upvote, and consume content. Not content creators. They cannot fathom that their source of entertainment is inaccessible and just want people to stop 'overreacting' and get back to scrolling.

What happens when the platform is no longer reliable, because the owner decided to upset the people making sure the quality remains as established? Sure, someone else will fill the gap, but with these actions I'm sure a lot content creators have flocked to other places. Which leaves the bots, and the lurkers. No content is worse than low quality content.

I'm curious for what the future brings for Reddit. It feels like it will have a different trajectory compared to Twitter, where anything is content and quality doesn't matter as much.

Message: 503 Server error - We're working on this, check back in a few days

The current 503 page reads: > > > 503 Server error - We're working on this, check back in a few days. > > Perhaps days should be changed to something else? A moment, a while... etc. in order not to scare people away whenever the site is being tinkered with. Uptime remains an important metric for many, and 'days' is a harsh timeframe.

Found it on the Playstation Store for 5 euros. I have tried playing this on PC before, but just couldn't sit down and enjoy it: hoorah for comfy couch gaming. I'm going to attempt it absolutely blind from the start, and I must admit I've already been temped to Google a 'find the book' quest. Anyone else has thoughts on this game? The sequel is arriving soon™ too.

    Media posting and media hosting

I am assuming image hosting will be quite difficult to scale if kbin keeps growing exponentially. Currently, I believe [@ernest](https://kbin.social/u/@ernest) is taking care of hosting? I remember IMGUR being created to aid Reddit/Redditors to host images without much hassle, but what would be the best way to tackle this for kbin? Use 3rd party hosting like imgur and the like? Regarding posting media, there are still a few functionalities that could use some work. The video button does not seem to work, and images do not respect aspect ratio in the main kbin feeds. In my opinion clicking an image in the feed should expand it (much like Reddit Enhancement Suite allowed), or the button to expand it should be more visible.

Image/Video posts, Flairs, Tags, and Customization

Finding my way around kbin slowly, and making posts here and there. Text posts have been fine, though the distinction between 'threads' and 'microblogs' could use some work. Similarly, a means of uploading images in a gallery format, or in a means that does not restrict to a strangely resized square on the main magazine would be a good addition. The video tab in uploads does not seem to work yet? With an eye on the future, visualizing tags much like Reddit has done with Flairs might be a nice way to go about things, but what exactly are Badges? I'm looking forward to posting more images of original content, so having these options would be great!

The whole reddit situation has been quite the storm, certainly for people fed up and looking for an excuse to move on. Reddit was in the fortunate position that it started out What You See Is What You Get -- Compare new reddit to old reddit. Click link of interest, get content. These Fediverse instances harken back to that, and I am happy for it. The spread out nature of the fediverse however is a pro and a con. Information and content will be less accessible and more difficult to interact with, but at least it is not \_in\_accessible instantly if a storm brews - unless folks decide to defederate. However, another positive for Reddit has been its name: it rolls off the tongue, it is memorable enough, and accessible/understandable to people not tech-savvy. In this regard, Lemmy (in my opinion) has a foot in the door opposed to KBIN. What does KBIN stand for? How am I going to convince fellow enthusiasts to 'kbin' something? Lemmy just feels like more of a verbal substitute. Having spent some time waiting for the nice folks to gather in the correct place, I'm really rooting for kbin to gain a foothold. **[Even more so now the actual Developers of Lemmy are showing their cards and dangerous ideologies. ](https://mstdn.social/@feditips/110476830253102884)** I hope more people become aware of these issues with Lemmy, and will flood to a more neutral place like kbin, or perhaps another.
