    • Razor: Yates 921-EH
    • Blade: Wizamet
    • Lather: House of Mammoth - Voices
    • Post Shave: House of Mammoth - Voices

The Yates EH plate is smoother than I remembered, perhaps the Wizamet is a particularly good match for the razor or my lather was just on point. Tusk remains a top tier soap base for me, and Voices is just wonderful every time I use it.

Can you describe what your current process is? The easiest way I've found so far is when you're browsing other instances, go to their communities list and find ones that you're interested in and click on them which will give you a string of text that you can copy and paste back into our WetShaving instance search. The string is something like: !<community>@<instance>

You take this string and go back to our instance, click on the search at the top right, then without changing any of the dropdowns just paste it into the search field and wait. It might take a little while for it to show up and when it does, click on it and then click the subscribe button and that should be it.

Oh, interesting. I hadn't thought of that, but I feel it shouldn't work that way. I would think that the instance that actually owns the community that other instances are subscribed to would centralize all the data and distribute it to all the servers it is federated with.

Thinking about this a bit more and reading some of the documentation, I think the other problem might be that some of the instances I'm subscribed to may be too popular that they're not able to properly send data to all the instances that want their data.

Summer time in Taiwan means highs of 35C+ almost daily so every day is a good day for some menthol. I find that I enjoy both synthetic and normal menthol and I've even started adding menthol drops to my shampoo which feels fantastic.

So far I'm finding that subscribing to communities doesn't seem to be the same experience as actually being a participant on that Lemmy instance that we're Federated with. Notably, the upvotes don't seem to sync properly to our instance which makes communities feel dead when they have hundreds or thousands of users on other instances. Also, it feels like a lot of the posts and/or comments from other instances don't actually show up when I subscribe to those communities from our instance. Can anybody else share their experience? Is this just an issue with our particular instance? Or a bug with synchronization across instances? Or does it just take a long time for things to catch up? Also, the sorting is horrible. Sorting by "Active" sometimes shows me posts from over a year ago, and sorting by "Hot" seems to have similar issues. The only way of seeing newer content at the moment seems to be sorting by "New". Hopefully a lot of these issues are resolved over time but right now it definitely feels a bit rough around the edges.

I've uploaded images directly to Lemmy and it works fine, though I don't know if there is resizing going on and I don't know about space limitations on the instance. One nice thing about using Lemmy on a desktop browser is you can copy and image to the clipboard and paste it in directly into the comment box and it inserts it effortlessly.

Good question because I was wondering this myself.

I googled and I couldn't find anything that relevant. I just don't think it's fair to say people are spreading misinformation when what you said isn't backed by scientific data either. It's not good enough for me to hear, "Oh, a doctor told me this so it must be true". I've never heard of alum blocks being used in a medical setting and Google isn't turning up any results either. To me this is the same as the videos going around at the beginning of COVID where a doctor put out YouTube videos telling people how to disinfect all their groceries and he was called out by a actual food microbiologist for spreading misinformation.

I'm in the camp of alum doesn't do much for me (and yes, I have Osma), but I'm happy to be proven otherwise. So far everything I've seen has been anecdotal. It might have some effect at stopping minor bleeding, but in my experience it doesn't work as well as styptic. To me, alum is just one of those things that you try and you use if you like the way it feels, don't use it if you don't like it or if it irritates your skin. Definitely don't use it just because someone tells you it's great.

I probably underloaded a bit but the lather was still pretty good. I have a tendency to overcompensate when I use a stiffer brush on a softer soap and it was my first time using the moar boar on milksteak so I didn't want to load half the tub for one shave. Still not tired of this scent.

I was pretty excited for Noble Otter/APR - Texaus when it came out, but when I first got my hands on a set I thought the scent strength was weak and was a bit disappointed and couldn't really pick up on the various notes listed. Over time my love for it grew and I killed the tub of soap but fortunately I still have more than half the splash left that I'm enjoying slowly.

The geometry is different. The SS has a very pronounced lip that is supposed to help stretch the skin a bit, but in practice kind of forces you to use a slightly steeper angle of approach. The SR is the newest model and tones down the lip quite a bit so it feels a bit more natural to use. The SR also has more weight to it. I generally prefer the SR after getting it but revisited the SS again lately which was fun to use as well.

Here is a great page comparing the various offerings.
