Would recommended SimpleX over Signal if you want the "best", but for users that are pretty new to this maybe Signal

You will always find problems associated with every thing but here's some recommandations :
For a good start, Signal and his forks (molly...)
For daily basis and better than Signal, choose SimpleX (SimpleX is only feature incomplete for the mainstream app, but in it you can send texts, voices, photos, videos, live messages, have a PP, a alias for your contacts...)
Important stuff and activism, use Briar

2nd - look at my message, I propose you 2 alternatives, one for SMS (to avoid) and one for "main" messages

For sure.
For the Paris 2024 Olympics, the city got the "right" to use the AI surveillance technology in the street. As we thought, they are going to keep this as long as they can. We need to do something against this IRL mass surveillance, going every day more into our private life

Newpipe, too (if you're using protective like VPN or Tor). It's juste the end of private YouTube streaming for now, maybe we'll find something...

Or people could make a great music torrent site that would replace the fact of having this "social" sharing platform

Hello, I'm beginner to QubeOS and I don't know really how to use it properly. I'm not really an absolute beginner in Linux (running it since 2 years), but I've never tried it and these I wanna try so installed it 2 days ago. At first it's very good, not laggy, etc.. It's what I want! But today I want to really set this thing up for every day use, but it's not really convenient to use for some of my use cases. So I need your help for global tips to use the system and for my use cases : - Never really liked use the default Firefox ESR + hardening, used the flatpak app of Mullvad, basically I want to know the way of installing apps - Want to set up "hacking" lab, mainly Kali or Parrot and other to use with the networking to "hack" them, basically I want to run multiples VMs Thank you guys 😁
Hello, making this post to get some honest, and technical opinions about GrapheneOS. Please do not be bother by this question. No drama here pls 🙏. I've heard that there is some of the google code into the "sandbox" feature. Say your opinion below! 👇👇
I wanna know if MATRIX recipients know my IP, and more globally what the recipients know about me (how the matrix protocol works). THX
Hey is there any alternatives to CloudFlare reverse proxies? I want to hide my server IP but not share everything with CF...
Hey, I wanna know your preferred laptops, used is better and to run Linux on it. Something with at least 16gb and 512 SSD is good. Budget range. Thank you!
The results are showing up... Now we have to hope for the law to be declined... Already discussed about the chat control law of the EU, here : https://lemmy.ml/post/16469106

**We need to do something against this.** The EU plans to apply a law for a **chat control** in the territory. The approval say that all the chats and the emails would be send to the government to do **AI scanning** to in fact “find the children abuses”, even when using apps with **end-to-end encryption** (the EU will ask the services to open their secrets keys… we know that Microsoft, Google and Facebook have already agreed to this. On the other hand Signal for example had said that they would leave the EU if this law will be applied). We need to counter this, because this restrict the **privacy** and the **security** of the citizens. Even if you’re not living in the EU, you should take a look because that could encourage others to do the same! Please take a look of the situation and make you your own idea of the case. Find out here the votes results for now, by countries and more... [mepwatch.eu](https://mepwatch.eu/9/vote.html?v=167712) Some others organizations criticized the approval, a open letter/petition was posted here : [globalencryption.org](https://www.globalencryption.org/2024/05/joint-statement-on-the-dangers-of-the-may-2024-council-of-the-eu-compromise-proposal-on-eu-csam/) PS : I know that this was posted on the community a bit before (https://lemmy.world/post/16093632) but I think this is really important and the people should know it. That's a really regrettable decision for the population. thx
I would like to buy new earbuds (for android), I've got 2 before a xiaomi one and the Donner dobuds one, the two broke after 6 months... Does someone has any recommandations? My budget is maximum $50 Thank you
I've seen that LTT made a video about degoogling our lives, that's a great point that a big youtuber like him would make videos like this!
Since some time I've searched photos related apps, to edit and take pictures but I've not found anything interesting in open source... Does someone has an explaination?
Hello, always wanted to know the absolute best to have the most private (and secure) browser, need tips for android and linux. I think Firefox based browser are the best choice but i'm open to recommendations!! THX
Hey, I'm always searching a home server (already post here https://lemmy.ml/post/15083947), I was thinking about a Lenovo P500, but maybe the PSU is a bit too special... My budget around $140, will buy used parts and one of the most important thing is the power efficiency (don't care about the peak wattage but want to stay around 50W idle and settling at about 70W when doing some work). Preferably I wouldn't like to buy mini PCs. 😃 Thx!
Just a simple question : Which file system do you recommend for Linux? Ext4...? EDIT : Thanks to everyone who commented, I think I will try btrfs on my root partition and keep ext4 for my home directory 😃
**SOLVED** : That was a misconfiguration.. (https://piefed.social/comment/1218522) It's strange.. I cannot see some of my recent posts. If you go on my profile, you cannot see the recent posts, the last on is about 2 weeks.. If someone has a solution ! thank you EDIT : I can see this post on my profile but it's missing loads of others between two weeks and today...
EDIT : I'm going to use a Lenovo P500 (at around $130) with 8 threads (will upgrade it later) and 64gb of RAM. It support the E5 v4 family so that's great. If someone knows the power consumption, that would be cool! Hello, I want to build a "homelab" and I'm searching for a server, what do you propose me as good options? I need something with at least 64gb RAM, can buy used, and minimum 16vcores.. Around 150$ If you have any good options let's comment below 👇 THX ❤
Hello, I want to self-hosted apps get requests from the users (mainly movies), and then I can find a download for it to move it to a jellyfin server. Maybe after that, it could be a little more automated to download stuff automatically 😃 Thx
