[ NEW BETA RELEASE ] Mlem for Lemmy TestFlight | 1.0.1 RC 2 (432) - 2023-08-09
  • entropicshart entropicshart Now 100%

Am I missing something or is there no share button on posts?

I really do love the image handling in Mlem (swipe to close, tap to zoom in/out); it has been something that Memmy has been struggling with a lot.

  • Six people killed in unprecedented Hawaii wildfires fanned by hurricane winds
  • entropicshart entropicshart Now 85%

I’m confused - they confirmed 6 deaths, but did not know how or where they occurred…. So are the deaths even related to the fire?

Could you share some pictures of the GPU setup? Really liking this so far.

  • Brazil police raids leave at least 43 people dead
  • entropicshart entropicshart Now 8%

The operation in Guarujá was criticised by Brazil's Justice Minister Flavio Dino, who said the police's reaction was not proportional to the crime committed.

I am curious, what would have been a proportional respond to a police officer being killed then? Let them get away without anything?

As tragic as any life loss is, I am not sure what other outcome could be expected from going after traffickers that are killing officers

  • Proton Pass is open source and has now passed an independent security audit
  • entropicshart entropicshart Now 100%

A bit short sighted to not have Proton Pass Family plans; I have 7 other people on my password managers that share vaults; trying to bundle Pass into the Proton Family suite (mail, storage, etc.) is going to miss a decent amount of users who are only looking for a password manager.

Having grown up in the commercial tv era is why I despise ads.

  • Alexandrite - Lemmy settings, mod tools, scroll to next/previous comment buttons, better markdown editor
  • entropicshart entropicshart Now 100%

Will give it another try and see if I can replicate it; I didn’t have anything clearing storage past the typical blocking of uBlock/Brave

I have tried to use this site over the last few weeks and every time I open it, I have to relogin.

I kind of gave up after repeating it several times.

Thanks for sharing! Have been thinking of writing a script to identify active communities and based on criteria, subscribe to them on my personal instance; this will be really helpful for it!

  • What are your thoughts on Lemmy and Lemdit so far?
  • entropicshart entropicshart Now 100%

I think it has been a great experience so far; I joined Lemmy.world after seeing it mentioned in comments on Reddit and after signing up, stopped all my usage of Reddit even before the API changes went into effect.

It took some work to find communities and block all the repost bots, as I think the bots just create spam without any user engagement.

I think some of the biggest improvements Lemmy can do now is:

    • to fix the sorting algorithms. For example so that Hot is not bringing up 3 year old posts that got one or two comments, and instead highlights current content that users are engaging on
    • maturity of mobile applications. Memmy and Mlem have seen rapid development and are becoming great apps already, but need some refining that will come with time and user feedback

  • Attackers invite targets to collaborate on a project, convincing them to download and run a repository with malicious npm dependencies.
  • entropicshart entropicshart Now 100%

There goes the argument of non technical users falling for scams. The tables have turned!

I do wonder if this would be negated by containered applications

  • Unraid 6.12.3 Now Available
  • entropicshart entropicshart Now 100%

All the docker issues have me really worried about touching the 6.12.* updates, since most of my infrastructure is in containers.

Will probably wait for a couple more minor releases before updating

  • Librewolf is Firefox but better
  • entropicshart entropicshart Now 100%

Looks interesting but seems to be getting abandoned unfortunately.

What I enjoy about floccus is that there is no additional app to interact with; you just save book marks as you normally would in any browser and it auto syncs the structure of your bookmarks to other browsers, so it is always easy and familiar to get to.

If you’re looking for a bookmark sync, check out floccus, a FOSS plugin for Firefox and chromium browsers that will sync your bookmarks to a cloud storage and across your browsers.

  • Reminder why I don’t use AirBNB’s
  • entropicshart entropicshart Now 70%

Folks that rent an Airbnb are often wanting more than a boring room (full kitchen, yard, washer/dryer), which is still without a doubt vastly cheaper than any hotel.

Sure there are shitty hosts with ridiculous rules, but those are things you should be researching in advance to paying.

I have stayed at Airbnbs across 4 states and four countries; other than one of them being cancelled due to plumbing issues, we have not had a single problem and each time it was far cheaper (~40%) and had more options than hotels.

Currently there is no way to tell if your posts or comments have any responses, so often I am having to dip into the web PWA to check and respond. I know there is a ton of things y’all are working on (and it looks amazing), thought I’d just throw in a vote for this feature!

As my home network grows, I've been trying to tighten down the security and separate devices/VMs/containers into vlans and hide them behind reverse proxies and security gateways. That being said, I would love to hear what approaches folks use to pen test their self hosted environments to find any holes/leaks.

Having reached low 60s, wondering if there are any Discord/Communities for power leveling? Would love to join to help others and level up some alts. Diablo 3 had a great way to connect with folks in game by joining communities in game and easily interacting with others; unfortunately Diablo 4 seems to be lacking in that area
