We were having a mild winter until the Arctic weather came. People here aren't used to weather like this. Nothing is built for it, so things are getting destroyed from pipes busting to streets cracking

The west will rebuild, paying their own corporations the whole time, and the corporations will take controlling interests in their natural resources. Ukrainians will be forced to shoulder the burden over the long term through harsh austerity terms on their immense IMF loans.

Why won't they press the button?! Why are they taking Lenin seriously when he said the first stages would still have features of the old society?!

There are chapters elsewhere, but it's become extremely decentralized. Elm Fork is by far the most reliable when it comes to showing up and doing stuff, though.

  • I've been unemployed for a while with an unstable housing situation that's just made it all the harder to get a job. I've been reading a lot(it's been a driving force behind me transitioning from demsoc, or radlib, to being an ML), but I've also noticed a change in my outlook. I have PTSD, and suffered a lot from depressive episodes. But the more I learn, the fewer episodes I've had. I no longer view the world as a hell that I had to get through just to feel the occasional spark of joy. Getting rid of a lot of the individualist thought that I had before has changed my viewpoint. I now know, that with other principled people, that the world doesn't have to be this way, that it's changeable, and that we've got much of the strategy for how to do so already laid out for us. It's made me much more optimistic than I had been, ready to face the struggles of the world because I know that we can change it.

This is so convoluted by goebbels propaganda and the west's eagerness to repeat nazi propaganda. Does anyone have any good sources on it? I don't really trust goebbels or the liberals that repeat what he said.

I just want to thank all of you for the ability to discuss things here without it turning into a toxic cesspool. Almost everywhere else, disagreement gets met with derision and hate, but here, not so much. I guess we've got the mods to thank for that largely, but it's also just the community at large. Y'all are willing to talk things out and struggle for the truth with logic and reason instead of hate. Thank you for being a community willing to see flaws instead of an enemy.

Just got finished with A People's History of the US. I was going to go over some of Mao's works next. Are y'all reading anything right now? Got any plans to read anything soon? Have any suggestions?

I'm not a man. I've wanted for so long to present as femme, to be seen as femme. My housing situation has been precarious lately, and I recently went from staying with a friend that was the worst kind of liberal ally to friends that are are both Q and T. I started feeling more safe and looking into diy hrt and seeing how so many of us are using ourselves as guinea pigs because we've lost access to anything like the ISR. And I see how it's becoming more and more dangerous where I live. And I realize that I'm not in a very stable position for reliable HRT. And during all my searching, I decided it's just not safe. I just need help coming to terms, I guess. Because I would transition if I felt like I could, but I just don't.

The Black Panthers made going through their education program mandatory before anyone could become a general member. It's incredibly difficult to find, though. Does anybody have resources on what the educational program consisted of? And if you've got other valuable resources about the Black Panthers, feel free to drop those, too.

I'm in the US, and I was wondering what everyone thought of the differences between PCUSA, CPUSA, & PSL. I've heard a little about each, but thought there may be comrades with experience in the parties that could help clarify their differences. After doing a sitewide search for the PSL website, I couldn't find Marxism-Leninism anywhere so that was disappointing. I found it on both other sites, but PCUSA accuses CPUSA of being revisionist, and I've heard rumors about CPUSA being filled with bad actors, but don't know enough to confirm it deny it. It's just worrisome. PCUSA seems very new, so I wonder how their organization is going. Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated. Edit: sorry if this is the wrong community for this, but this community has a lot of principled people, so that's why I thought I might get the best answers here.

These are out front. I've told my neighbors they can come by and grab some when they want. I think only one neighbor has come so far. It grows quick, so it doesn't take a large patch to keep plenty around.

They're usually bigger, but it's been a hot, dry summer. The leaves are edible and go great in soups or with eggs! They need to be cooked, though, or they'll cause gastrointestinal distress. At least, I was told that and haven't bothered testing it. Lol

I wanted to see what others thought when reading the introduction. I immediately thought of all the "science" done in the US that said smoking wasn't bad for you or that climate change wasn't caused by human activity. I'm sure there are many other examples, but Lenin is specifically talking about social sciences. Does anyone know of any examples of this? I like to try to connect theory to historical or current events because it helps me understand better, but I'm drawing a blank right now. I've included the intro that I'm talking about below. "Throughout the civilised world the teachings of Marx evoke the utmost hostility and hatred of all bourgeois science (both official and liberal), which regards Marxism as a kind of “pernicious sect”. And no other attitude is to be expected, for there can be no “impartial” social science in a society based on class struggle. In one way or another, all official and liberal science defends wage-slavery, whereas Marxism has declared relentless war on that slavery. To expect science to be impartial in a wage-slave society is as foolishly naïve as to expect impartiality from manufacturers on the question of whether workers’ wages ought not to be increased by decreasing the profits of capital."

Just wondering if there's a NSFW function here. I just saw a post about the Ukraine conflict, and the poster mentioned they didn't know how to blur the photo that was included. That got me to realize I don't know how to, either.

I know some things work differently here on Lemmy, but is there a way to put a learning plan into the sidebar or something similar? Would we even want that?
