"Suggesting people 'just' use FOSS is often unhelpful, because it assumes they have sufficient computer abilities and/or have the time to learn how."

I mean, it took my parents in law 10 minutes to learn and they're almost 80. Realistically, if you're using a computer, you have sufficient computer abilities and time to learn Linux.

@morrowind funny to find this here when I wrote my reply just a while ago:

"It's like talking to someone who is in a crappy apartment as though they have the agency and skills to stake out a plot of land and build their own home."

Maybe if you're suggesting them to install Linux From Scratch, then yes, it is.

If you're suggesting them them to install any of the many very simple (and very usable OOTB) distros like Fedora, then it's not.

In that case it's like the house is free, already built and furnitured, and right next to their own; but they have to move their personal belongings from one house to the other and learn a different room layout.

Sure, they still have the right to complain about how their landlord treats them like crap. But they sound pretty damn stupid if they do so while having an available free house right next door, and refusing to move because they don't want to learn a new room layout.

@brayd I can confirm. I have installed Fedora Silverblue to a number of non-techies including my wife, her parents and several of her friends; I walked them through the system for a few minutes and explained basic operation. Most of them have been using it for years, never reported any sort of problem and even expressed being much more satisfied than before.

@flumph so, if there was a button that allowed drivers to prioritize white passengers, but there wasn't one to prioritize black passengers, that wouldn't be discriminatory to you?

@flumph if they allowed sorting the list by race, instead of by gender... would you understand how it's discrimination, then?

  • Right now, I can see the same link several times on the front page, repeated across different magazines. Here's an example: [https://i.imgur.com/kgWcskr.png](https://i.imgur.com/kgWcskr.png) Is this supposed how it works? If you want to add a link to a magazine, and it's already added to another, shouldn't you be able to add the existing one to the new magazine instead of duplicating the link?

Hi, I have a computer with Fedora Silverblue, and Steam installed through flatpak. It works mostly fine, but very often it freezes after waking from suspend. Is there anything I can do about that?

    Monetization options for instance administrators?

Since running a Kbin instance implies some costs, it might be good to implement some ways for admins to monetize their instance. Has this been considered?

Hey all, I'm using my Linux machine as kind of a games console: it's on my living room, connected to my TV, and I play from the couch. Sadly, whenever it suspends, I need to get up and press the power button in order to wake it. Is it possible to make the Bluetooth gamepad wake it instead?
