The instance you make your account on doesn't matter, as they're federated you can see and interact with posts from anywhere else.
You can check out the Lemmy community browser to see a list of the most visited communities, then search for them in https://lemmy.world/search to subscribe/post/comment.

Wiped the VPS clean, new 22.04 server install.
Deployed using that installer.
Exact same issue. The lemmy container cannot reach the database and continually restarts. I'll post some logs, but they're practically identical to what I posted before:
lemmy container logs:

It is honestly far too late for me to keep troubleshooting - I'll be back here tomorrow afternoon (CDT). Until then!

Ran those commands successfully, then the playbook again. Playbook has zero errors or warnings.
The postgres container was remade.. with the same broken database. Went into it with psql like before, did \c lemmy, then \dt - same error - did not find any relations.
aranym Now • 100%
No errors of any kind in the ansible script. nginx is running, and it's at https://lemmy.name - I get some gateway timeout errors once in a while, but that's all. When I do get error pages, they are served via https at least, so I don't think there's anything wrong with that part.
I assume this is because the lemmy backend container is continually restarting (as I detailed more in my original post and other replies here) due to database connection errors
aranym Now • 100%
\c lemmy
does return "You are now connected to database "lemmy" as user "lemmy""
Running \dt after connecting returns "Did not find any relations", so it looks like you were right and the database didn't get populated.

Thanks for the help so far y'all, but I'm heading to sleep. Will continue working on this tomorrow.

docker exec -it lemmyname_postgres_1 /bin/bash
returns the bash prompt as expected: 2ab8c789fdcd:/#
psql -U lemmy -d lemmy
successfully opens psql:
psql (15.3)
Type "help" for help.
lemmy=#
ran select name from person;
from the psql shell, it does look empty (haven't created any users yet):
ERROR: relation "person" does not exist
LINE 1: select name from person;

Yes, I can log into the psql shell on the container and connect to the database from there with no issue. I guess it is a network issue, I'll look into it further tomorrow

Yes, I posted the docker status info and logs from the container in my reply to Veraticus

They can't be replaced in this case - unless Reddit wants to spend lots of $$$ hiring moderators. As long as they leave that power to community mods, it is impossible for them to stop this type of protest.
I do think there is a real possibility Reddit will consider this a long-term risk and replace them with paid mods.

what this tells me is that it's finally having a financial impact
>"It's one of the many indicators showing the continued strength of the economy," said Kevin McKinnon, interim commissioner of the Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development (DEED). >The state unemployment rate also ticked up slightly but still remains low at 2.9%, according to data DEED released Thursday. It's nearly a percentage point lower than the U.S. jobless rate of 3.7%.
In a comment shared by r/Apple moderator @aaronp613, Reddit cited its Moderator Code of Conduct and said that it has a duty to keep communities "relied upon by thousands or even millions of users" operational. Mods who do not agree to reopen subreddits that have gone private will be removed. > If a moderator team unanimously decides to stop moderating, we will invite new, active moderators to keep these spaces open and accessible to users. If there is no consensus, but at least one mod wants to keep the community going, we will respect their decisions and remove those who no longer want to moderate from the mod team.
Only time it's happened, I had to refresh to get it to go away. I checked and the username is real, they joined 3 days ago. Is this a common issue? Any security risk?

Update for anyone wondering: Around 58% of the initial protest userbase has gone dark permanently (at the time of writing).
Many have gone public only to run polls on how to proceed, so that number is expected to increase.

I've heard several advertisers are reconsidering spending with Reddit, they didn't realize the community had this much power over the site (which introduces more risk for them.) Hopefully that has some effect.

I just messaged them, but they haven't had any activity on their account since creation (including in their own subs), so I don't have a lot of hope.
Worst case scenario, if I don't get a response in a week I will try contacting Ruud. Having to contact the instance admin directly for this sort of thing seems unsustainable though.
> The Minnesota Pollution Control Agency issued an orange advisory, which means air pollution will be unhealthy for people with breathing issues, the elderly and young people. > Easterly winds are moving the smoke, much of it from fires in Quebec, west across the state, where it will linger into Thursday.
>The vow to extend the demonstration came after CEO Steve Huffman reportedly sent a memo to staff saying Reddit would “get through it” while opining that “like all blowups on Reddit, this one will pass as well.” In response to Huffman doubling down, a user wrote, “Let them fuck around and find out.” > Moderators from well-trafficked subreddits, including r/awww, r/music, r/videos, r/futurology, r/apple and r/NBA (among many others) chimed in to commit to an indefinite protest.
Can't connect? Having any weird issues? Check this out! (Will be expanded as needed.) **No sound** First try just restarting the game a few times - sometimes that's all it takes. If that doesn't work, proceed: Download this (in gzip format, you will need 7zip or similar to extract): https://archive.org/details/Beta-1.7.3 In MultiMC/Prism, click on your b1.7.3 instance and click "Folder" on the right side menu. Enter the .minecraft folder, delete the contents of the resources folder there, and replace them with the files from the extracted archive. **Can't connect** This includes timeout errors, "An existing connection was forcibly closed by the remove host", and similar. First, make sure you're using either Prism Launcher or MultiMC. The official launcher does not handle old versions as well. When you made your instance, make sure you selected b1.7.3 and NOT 1.7.3. This requires toggling the "Betas" checkbox seen below. ![](https://lemmy.world/pictrs/image/fd0e979a-03ad-4bd4-9790-54b883ce4c4a.png) Finally, try connecting to the [website](http://oldschoolmc.live) - if you can't visit that, there is a chance your ISP may be blocking our IP address. DM me and I'll help.
