I use Firefox and the [uBlock Origin](https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/ublock-origin/) addon as my default browser setup. It works great..except for on youtube. I used to use it happily for youtube with all Ads blocked, but two recent youtube changes made me have to use a different browser and extension, just for youtube. 1) Firefox users started noticing degraded performance on youtube vs when they viewed youtube with Chrome. 2) uBlock Origin users in Chrome and Firefox appear to be being targeted with an intermittent covert punishment of having any videos above 360p throttled so that they buffer heavily. So my current approach, just for youtube, is Chrome with [Clear Skies](https://chromewebstore.google.com/detail/clear-skies/jkiagenaojjkaabmmapjoeolppddefgp) ad skipper extension which gets me good performance and no ads. What is your setup for youtube without ads? ---- I'm also interested in youtube alternatives, especially for music.

If you want to listen to music on YouTube but don't like this type of fuckwadary, try out the Clear Skies chrome extension to skip ads and let them keep their advertisements to themselves.

  • I thought it would be helpful for all the good people of Lemmy World if we shared our browser setups. I'm mostly a laptop user when it comes to the Internet. I've been using Firefox with the Ublock Origin addon and it makes browsing the web so much less ad filled. For youtube specifically I've had the best results with Chrome and an extension called Clear Skies for ad skipping. Share you own browser setup. What do you use to surf the wild waves of the web to avoid the sharks and the sharp rocks?

If you're just looking to use youtube without having to suffer through ads, try out the chrome extension called Clear Skies. I just started using it and found it to be super minimal on my computer's memory and makes youtube usable.
