What's something that you were surprised to find out a lot of people hate?

    The Last Jedi.

I left the theater on opening night thrilled with what I saw. I couldn't wait to go online and read all the positive reactions and theories for the next one... Whelp.

  • It’s time for Americans to embrace small cars
  • Gur814 Gur814 Now 100%

I had a small car by American standards (Chevy Volt) and it felt unsafe to drive sometimes. Everyone had massive trucks and SUVS and could barely see me. I had to drive super defensively. I wouldn't want to get into a crash in one when the other vehicles are like 3x the size and weight.

I like smaller cars and wish we could see the average size start to drop here, but I think we're past the point of no return. I recently bought a larger vehicle so I can actually fit my kids in the back and people seem to actually see me.

  • You don't hate JIRA, you hate your manager - Derek Jarvis' Blog
  • Gur814 Gur814 Now 100%

You absolutely nailed it. I have no issues with what my manager asks me to use Jira for. I do have issues with the extremely convoluted UI and nearly every interaction triggering loading screens. Most of my time in Jira is spent fighting their terrible user interface and waiting for the damn thing to load.

I've donated to Lemmy, Beehaw, and Mastodon and came here because Reddit killed Sync. Lemmy is full of gatekeepers and it's bringing the platform down. Half the posts are whining about reddit and the other half are whining because someone doesn't adhere to the perfect open source ethos and shun anything not completely free. It's getting tiring. No wonder Lemmy's active user count is decreasing.

I haven't used them in a few years and found them a lot worse than Chrome at the time. I'll have to give them a try at work this week so I can hopefully fully switch over.

How are the developer tools lately? That's the only thing keeping me on Chrome at work. Otherwise, I'm using Firefox on my phone and personal computer.

What? I'm a software engineer (a so-called "professional") at a major corporation and we get the choice between Windows and Mac. Every single person I know in the company has chosen Mac.

I donated the other day and I'm glad to see the user base here so willing to support the project!

If we want these places to succeed, we need to be willing to pay for them. It's the only way to keep things running ad and data collection free.

I would have been happy paying Reddit to keep 3rd party app access... But they clearly think my data is worth more than a direct monthly fee. So I'll give them neither and hang out here instead.

    Nice!

I think this kind of thing will only scale long term if the user base is willing to contribute something. Even a few bucks a month would go a long way if a large enough percentage did it. Ok, I'll get off my soapbox now. 🙂
