Last year, coal accounted for 60 per cent of Teck’s revenue and 75 per cent of its profit. (from the Globe and Mail)
This sounds like a massive downsizing. Is Teck in need of cash or is this a strategic move? Most of these mines produce metallurgical coal so not used for power generation. Do they see that steel production wil switch off coal? Are there even good alternatives to metallurgical coal?

The steam coming out of an Instant Pot. People have looked very worried when I put my hand into the steam blasting out.
I feel like Bookwyrm has proven the idea of a federated review platform. Could this be extended to local business reviews? I vowed long ago to stop contributing to closed platforms such as on Google Maps or Yelp. Could a federated alternative be a good solution?

I am excited about developments such as Iy̓álmexw, Sen̓áḵw, and Willingdon Lands. All three look to be progressive community- oriented developments that will be great places to live while providing income to the First Nations involved.

BC has very few solar farms of a substantial size so I am interested to see what new solar projects come around.

I think better would be member-owned cooperative instances. I am hoping for a Canadian one like cosocial.ca

OEB in Brentwood. Their breakfast poutines with half fries half arugula are excellent.

I would like to join a cooperatively owned instance.
I have been tempted to join cosocial.ca, however I don't care for microblogging (Mastodon) as much as something forum-like such as a Lemmy instance.

Burnaby has done an excellent job of making homes and amenities available close to rapid transit.
But it is also the most extreme example of having no middle density. We either get massive towers or single family homes.
It's great that they are planning on adding laneway homes but it's a very small effort and very behind when the city needed it. The city should be allowing co-ops and multi-unit homes up to 6 stories throughout the entire city.
I love growing my own food but I have had to limit the types of plants I grow because rats always come and eat them. In previous years I have had rats devour my entire beet, carrot, pea, and strawberry harvests each in a matter of one or two nights. I set snap traps every night with peanut butter (and trip them every morning so I don't kill any birds). Last year I killed 17, this year I have already killed 5. I am now growing peas that climb taller so the rats can't reach them. Next year I plan on hanging my strawberry plants off the ground. I have started removing all the lower branches of my tomatoes so they can't climb them. I have given up on carrots, beets, and daikon... Has anyone found any effective methods to manage this? My neighbour won't do anything about the rats and their property is entirely overgrown. I have heard spreading hot pepper flakes can discourage them from coming around.
