I’ve been having a number of conversations on Hexchan recently trying to make sense of their politics.
No you have not. There is absolutely no pro-Trump sentiment among Hexbear users. You are full of shit.

This user is completely making shit up about Hexbear.

If this actually happened this user would be able to link to it to prove it. Everyone should be deeply suspicious of people that make claims "x happened on social media" without actually linking to that claim, they want you to believe their completely bullshit explanation instead of what actually happened.

Imperialism does not mean "of empire". It is an economic system, the highest stage of capitalism.

How did you end up making your first comment on an 11 month old post?

In the 3 years Hexbear has been around it has been attacked A LOT because obviously far right chuds have an interest in messing with leftists but has not to my knowledge had an admin breach. At one point image embeds were completely disabled because they were handing over data they shouldn't though and risked exposing people to doxxing.
Translation: > NOW THAT'S ENOUGH... > >Faced with these savage hordes, asking for calm is not enough, it needs to be imposed! > >Reestablishing republican order and preventing the arrested from being able to harm should be the only political signals to be given. > >Faced with these demands, the police family must have solidarity. > >Our colleagues, like the majority of citizens, can no longer suffer the dictate of these violent minorities. (lol) > >The hour isn't for union action, but for the combat against these "harmfuls" (harmful people harmful elements idk) Submitting, capitulating, and pleasing them by laying down arms are not solutions seeing the gravity of the situation. > >All means necessary must be put in place to restore as quickly as possible the rule of law. > >[...] > >[...] > >Today the Police are in combat because we are at war. > >[...] > >The national offices of the National Police Alliance and UNSA Police

Listening to billionaire media on what they think about the people that want to overthrow the billionaires is a sure fire way to fill your brain with rot.

It's not doing better than expected, it has entirely reverted. Its quarterly growth is now outperforming most of the EU. Meanwhile the EU is becoming vassalised by the US as a result of this, which is precisely what the US wanted the war for in the first place and precisely why the US bombed the german-owned Nordstream 2 pipeline. The vast majority of the motivation for this proxy war from the US side is simply that it is vastly increasing european dependency on the US and removing what little sovereignty we had left.
and is making, albeit small, gains
They are making no gains, zero. They have not crossed a single Russian defensive line. They have not come within sight of a dragon's tooth. They have been repelled by artillery before reaching the first line every single time. There are three lines to cross.
Taking a field or a village of 200 people is not a "gain" it is simply space that nobody felt like defending being used for propaganda. These spaces would equally be abandoned by Ukraine at the first sign of pressure because they're simply not worth holding. Highlighting these is desperate cope by the online propagandists that you have to look past and focus on what matters - the actual lines of defence and control.

Doing exactly what is needed to get change to happen when the cops are murdering children in traffic stops by shooting them in the head and then lying about it at every single level of power is good actually.
When the state refuses to provide justice people should absolutely take it. The threat of the population taking their own justice is precisely what motivates states to provide a source of it that they control.
I strongly recommend you actually watch what happened.

I do not see how any political leader making a statement of support for protesters over this heinous act is "opportunistic". It's exceptionally important to have their voices sounding off to maintain momentum and public support.
Say what you will about him not being hard-left enough, I'll give you that. But I don't think it's the time or place for it.

Literally just said this to someone here only yesterday then come across this lol. Ben Norton's journalistic work is so far above anything else right now, you can barely call most media "journalism" by comparison. They act more as influencers than journalists.

On a global scale, there are far more places it would be completely and utterly unacceptable in any way than those that embrace it.
This is inaccurate.
Trans people are MORE accepted in both the middle east and asia than they are in the west and this is caused by collectivist vs individualist culture differences.
Gay rights has been largely accepted in the west while transphobia is still incredibly high. Whereas in the middle east and asia it is the opposite, gay rights are completely not acceptable while trans people are significantly more accepted and have been a normalised feature of their cultural and artistic works for a very long time.
Case in point, even the Iranian state will pay for your transition surgery. But being gay will get you killed.
Excellent video that dives into this topic more here, it is focused on Japan's game industry but touches on the middle east also: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gRrVkZoN93c
Offtopic: Are you actually from the isle of man or just a fan of the flag? I was there 2 weeks ago.

is operated primarily for the purpose of illegal or harmful acts, such as sharing child pornography, human trafficking, inciting/facilitating acts of violence or terrorism, etc.
This should be reserved for criminal activity, civil activity should not be included.
For example, acts of libel and slander are illegal, but it's a civil matter. Same goes for piracy which is quite frankly one of the things that should be promoted on the platform as it will bring people in and sits correctly in the anti-corporate zone of fediverse's goals.
Meanwhile things like hatespeech or child porn are not a civil matter. They are a criminal matter in the vast majority of the world.
The distinction helps to allow addressing the edgier stuff on a case-by-case basis while shutting out the stuff that absolutely should be shut out.

I'm not a writer so I won't embarrass myself. But I'll post my favourite related poem instead by Langston Hughes who should need no introduction, if that's a nono here I apologise but I do enjoy a bit of poetry.
Lenin walks around the world.
Frontiers cannot bar him.
Neither barracks nor barricades impede.
Nor does barbed wire scar him.
Lenin walks around the world.
Black, brown, and white receive him.
Language is no barrier.
The strangest tongues believe him.
Lenin walks around the world.
The sun sets like a scar.
Between the darkness and the dawn
There rises a red star.

There are a lot more ways for community marshalls to gate posting in communities when they're running it properly as opposed to over on reddit where us moderators are fairly limited in the actions we can take. Using karma as a gate will also be somewhat ineffective as instance owners will exist that simply create karma for people.
It's also a fairly unpleasant thing to begin with. Coming from a bunch of bazinga techbro libertarians turning all discussion into a "market". If you accept that gameification isn't going away there's still a good amount of research showing downvotes only hurt platforms and discussion rather than improve it.

There is a score kept in the backend, it just has no frontend in default lemmy and only exists if instance devs want to do something custom with it. Some apps are probably using it.

I have not said you should not support the ukrainian people. The problem is that you do not, you are nationalists that support the ukrainian state, not the lives of human beings. They are two quite separate things.
