I do think it was a mistake in the USSR to have state atheism though. Correct me I am wrong, but to hold elected office in the USSR one had to be officially an atheist.

I agree with you though, it is common sense for the state to permit the practice of faiths or the lack thereof. But for the state to mandate atheism for officials is no different than the state mandating officials fold a particular faith.

Catholic here. Indulgences are kind of a dead thing in the Church now, but like most things in the Church they are still on the books.

Some context to them: They were used in place of penance. So when you confess your sins out a state of remorse and longing to make amends in your relationship with God, you have to complete an act of penance. Indulgences interceded penitential acts, and they were originally intended as a way for more well off individuals to further contribute to the Church and community, such as providing funds for church buildings, schools, and hospitals. This, though, was easily abused by the Church as a way of getting some extra cash.

I do not know what to tell ya man, the working class is a mixed bag of religious and non-religious. You can't just not associate with religious folk. But no one is forcing you to believe or practice Christianity. The dogma I firmly believe in has no bearing on you, or society as a whole.

Your posts have been sporadic, incoherent, and off base. I am sorry, but you seem quite unhinged and seem to be dealing with some personal things; you might want to step away from the computer and go outside for a bit. I do not know who hurt you, but I am terribly sorry they did. Please, allow us Christians to practice our faith in peace, as we as Christian socialists will always allow you the same. We are both comrades, we are both striving for the socialist ideal, let us leave it at that.

The clergy would not be a class, it would be like anyone else's vocation. Has it been a class in the past, and sometimes still today? Sure. No one denies that. But it is not required for the priesthood to act as a class to exist. It is simply a vocation. Marxism is the scientific analysis of capitalism, and religion can be independent of the current independent economic system. I assure you, the Orthodox Church existed in the Soviet Union, and there are many religions found within the People's Republic of China. Am I a cradle Catholic? Yea, but I still believe it is true. I have looked at other faiths, and none seem to be more correct than Catholicism, so there is that I suppose.

I do not think it is the Christian ideal, nor the socialist ideal, to have anyone starve to death simply for their faith lol.

Yea, liberation theology is pretty great. I base my practicing of Catholicism around its theory. It is okay that you do not think religion is your thing, all who engage in good faith are welcome on the sub.

“You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden; nor does anyone light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on the lampstand, and it gives light to all who are in the house. Let your light shine before men in such a way that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father who is in heaven." - The Gospel According to Saint Matthew, 5:14-16 We as socialists have identified that there needs to be actual, tangible change in the world. The only way to achieve this change is by revolutionary struggle. These revolutionary works, because they are works, they are actions that take great struggle and effort, inspire not only our fellow socialists, but all the people of the Earth. Our Lord stated that we must be lamp, shining bright for the entire house, or like a proud city on top a hill. We can not just let our work in advancing socialism, advancing the mission of Christ (love, peace, and equality, just some of the main tenets of the socialist ideal) be relegated to the forums of the internet, or inside the classroom, or within our own small socialist circles. No, we must go out in the world and give socialist flavor to it, to meet the working people of the world where they are at. Christ calls us to be "the salt of the Earth" in a verse before the above passage. Even small changes and small helpful efforts can make a massive difference. Simply even educating people who show interest in our movement helps to flavor our world. These are just some of my early morning thoughts on this passage, one of my favorites. Post your own thoughts in the comments if you'd like, or maybe simply engage in some silent reflection. Live Jesus in Our Hearts, Forever!
