Thrash Metal
So I'm compiling a list of thrash bands to listen to, that I haven't already. When I listen to bands, I listen to studio albums and EPs in order of release, then move to the next. This way I can get a feel for how the band progresses over time. Just thought I'd mention that, as I think it is a handy tip for exploring new bands. Anyway, do you have any underground/relatively unheard of bands that you believe to be underrated and worth my time? EDIT: I ended up pinning the post, as it may be useful to others. If you have any to share, feel free to add/update suggestions (don't worry about commenting on an old post).
'Cause I'm shakin' and I'm thinkin' Of something evil lurking And waiting for me in the dark **SPOTIFY:** https://open.spotify.com/track/044ibBYidJScAX8QNkbmpI
Not much to say on this one, just a solid, catchy example of bay area thrash. **SPOTIFY:** https://open.spotify.com/track/4sQpHre9FKhKjX5Da1untb
A rare gem here for ya! It's blackened thrash by an unheard of Colombian band. It's rough around the edges but has more than enough aggression and energy to make up for it! Tell me what you think! **SPOTIFY:** https://open.spotify.com/track/4AGt8ncMeNl65AVQRqYLIh EDIT: removed tracking parameter from yt link.
One of the best metal instrumentals I have heard. **SPOTIFY:** https://open.spotify.com/track/7GDWJw2xnY6DkxKUU5Rxr2
Killer tone, killer chorus. Some new wave thrash for ya!
The recent Voivod post inspired me to post some more technical thrash. Here goes.
Dutch thrash from their first album Malleus Maleficarum. Became more death metal with the second album, and more prog from their third. First two are my favs.
More Canadian thrash/crossover. This is from their first album Dead Brain Cells. Lovely piece of intense music! Their second album Universe went for a more technical sci-fi approach, with a Voivod vibe. But it didn't really work for me, I missed the older energy. They are recording again, since 30 years, and it does sound promising!
Not pure thrash, but a universe in itself. Their first album When The Kite String Pops, is mandatory listening for every extreme music fan! From thrash to sludge to acoustic to groove, it's beyond styles. Insanity as a musical style. One of the sickest albums out there. I simply call it swamp metal as it radiates damp, rotting, stinking heat. Vocalist Dax Riggs is out of this world with his vocal range, I'm actually amazed he didn't just die from spitting his guts out! Note on the video: it's an album track with some live footage patched to it. It doesn't fit exactly, so it feels a bit amateuristic. But it does convey the immense energy of Dax and the band!
Now have some horsecore!
Seattle crossover/splattercore! Sick band!
The Norwegian Kolbotn kings! Great blackened thrash!
Another recent find for me, they seem to like Slayer quite a bit. So do I :D
Recently discovered these guys, was pretty blown away! Modern thrash, old-school vibes and intensity!
For those who haven't before, I would definitely check out the entire album: History of a Time to Come. It is full of underappreciated gems and tasty riffs. **SPOTIFY:** https://open.spotify.com/track/6cPZZzFAQdH8Xf9pQT2KIe
In love with this guitar tone. Wish I knew how to crank this tone outta my amp! **SPOTIFY:** https://open.spotify.com/track/45Y3YAmUfUbZAPq6bEwFLN
Title track off another brilliant album!
Voivod - Killing Technology (1987)
Killer song with a killer solo, made by the Italian thrashers: Bulldozer. **SPOTIFY:** https://open.spotify.com/track/2MsOShfKWHYmi8YP1NZBa7 EDIT: forgot to post Spotify link.
It's been a lil while since posting some of the Waste's discography. As you can tell, one of my favourite bands. **SPOTIFY:** https://open.spotify.com/track/6HgCn13ALssuI6sYIc2rW2
~~Brass~~ Tungsten knuckles. **SPOTIFY:** https://open.spotify.com/track/1J6eqeKsi93dMS9lvXIPeK?si=Z6SqnbH7QquRIaogGN2BLA
Classic Slayer! Still brutal to this day.
What's your favourite song from In the Sign of Evil? For me it's between this and Witching Metal.
You should definitely check out this relatively unheard of band from Germany.
Funniest band...
A great thrash band with female vocals. Do you know of any others?
Working my way through my list of bands. I thought I'd change things up a bit. This is my first time listening to Paradox.
A tad more serious than Surfin' Bird...
Glad this exists.

E.g. Blackened, death thrash, crossover etc.
Not heard this band till now, loving it so far! Has a technical, almost progressive feel, which I admit isn't usually my thing, but I'm really enjoying it. Then again I have always liked Coroner. Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/track/6icGY0j6obZtfLtQ754rxD?si=EvOwpyqeSvS52IZhgWO65Q
I don't hear many people mention this early blackened thrash album.
A good example of clean singing in thrash.
