I don't speak Esperanto yet but I think it might be a good thing to have a community for, given the language's internationalist nature and its historical connections to left-wing politics. If you look for federated Esperanto communities, one of them is basically locked because they moved instances, and the other is dead as a doornail. An Esperanto comm could be used to talk about Esperanto history and culture and news from Esperantujo, or help people learn the language, or people could discuss language politics, et cetera, all in Esperanto. Hexbear does have that weird thing where it won't let you post if you say that your post is in a language other than English, though. An alternative might be to see if there are any Esperantist instances we can federate with.
A community to discuss and oppose the USA's cultural imperialism, a bit like the .ml community NoYank, except with a better ideological basis and less reactionary mod. The name is just a suggestion and the exact scope can still be worked out.
Obviously it's not a good name so something like /c/hiphop would be good or honestly any other name people can think of. /c/music exists but some of us were talking about it during a movie night and we think /c/music is a little too general especially with how much regional difference there is in rap. I would be down to be a mod for it, I'm not sure if the other people who were a part of the convo would want to be mods.
I actually do appreciate rule 8 in the_dunk_tank. People seem to struggle with the rule a bit too much, and I'm afraid that mods are bored of removing rule 8 related posts. Could we just have a community for low tier bullshit that rule 8 fans can block? Ya posting directly to [!shitreactionariessay@lemmygrad.ml](https://lemmygrad.ml/c/shitreactionariessay) is a good rule and makes sense, but people don't seem to be able to follow it. Heck I'll even mod the community if you make it. Thanks ![stalin-heart](https://www.hexbear.net/pictrs/image/0b61630a-6c52-4407-ae82-f388c0d0f668.png "emoji stalin-heart")
Having a dedicated space to this would be nice. Currently if you want DIY resources you need to search for it and find the old threads, like the resource thread by u/quartz242, or the thread I made. Discussion around DIY is very scattered, rarely in posts, and some in random threads. Having all of it contained in one place would be better.
I think we should have a feminism comm dedicated to feminist theory, women's issues, etc. There's already feminist discussions on Hexbear fairly frequently, so I foresee there being enough activity to warrant a community. However, @thelastaxolotl suggested just reusing c/womenby when I brought this up last month, so here's my formal request for either a feminism community or the reopening of c/womenby. ...also how do we nominate mods?
It would almost certainly be a community with very few if not zero active posters, and there's already a few relevant communities on .world, and nothing's stopping people from posting d/Deaf or HoH-related content on other communities... But even keeping all that in mind, I still think having a /c/deaf would be nice anyways. The community could also be called /c/dhoh or something else entirely, it depends on what people prefer.
I want to role play as Harold Halibut
A community for Leftypedia and updates about it. To gather consensus from leftists about its content and policy, introduce new editors, and things like that.
As the title says. I am willing to moderate it if need be, but I suppose there is better comrades out there for that job. edit: also if 'eugene' style memes can get banned there for being """tankie adjacent""" we need a piracy comm on Hexbear. https://hexbear.net/post/2484423
as evidenced by [this](https://hexbear.net/post/2449813?scrollToComments=false) thread, we should have a /c/pics comm
It would be cool to have a place for people to share their dreams. Dream journaling is a great way to reflect and possibly draw inspiration. Whether or not your dreams have anything important to say about your waking life and your subconscious is up for debate. Dream journaling is fun and can help develop your ability to lucid dream, which is amazing and if you haven’t tried to develop the ability, you should. For those that believe dreams are a way to understand our subconscious this could be a great place to discuss and ask for input. Last night I had a nightmare me and some friends were at this cafe in like this Venice-style canal city. There was like a swim up bar below us in the water. A pack of four orcas entered the canals…and yeah absolutely terrifying but definitely a memorable one.
There are many barriers that disallow comrades from getting unbiased input from a medical professional, and I think this comm could provide that access. I have seen some thoroughly uninformed medical takes here, and this could serve as a place for people who want research-backed answers to their medical questions. Would also be a place to post advancements in medicine, changes in medical policy, etc I know there is already /c/drugs but that is primarily aimed at recreational use and harm reduction. Unsure if we would be required to label the comm "This is not medical advice", while still providing it.
It's fine if the dunk tank doesn't want to be a place where we get mad at insignificant reactionary nerds, I love that for them. But for those of us who LIKE getting mad at insignificant reactionary nerds, we need a containment zone for those kinds of posts, otherwise folks are just going to get shit removed from dunk tank / cth / main all the time. Enter, chapodunkhouse. It's exactly the same as the dunk tank, except we can keep dunking on folks whose opinions don't matter to anyone who matters. I think the rules should be: Rule 1: All posts must include links to the subject matter, and no identifying information should be redacted. Rule 2: If your source is a reactionary website, please use archive.is instead of linking directly. Rule 3: No sectarianism. Rule 4: TERF/SWERFs Not Welcome Rule 5: No ableism of any kind (that includes stuff like libt*rd) Rule 6: Do not post fellow chapos. Rule 7: Do not individually target other instances' admins or moderators. Anyway I'm happy to mod this with anyone else who wants to mod this, including any of the mods of the dunk tank since they already are doing a great job moderating it outside of the new Rule 8. Also yes this is a serious comm request I'm not shitposting. I like dunking on random libs and I know lots of others do too.
Hasan Piker has long been an ally of the chapo community. I think there's a lot of overlap between our spaces.
Please answer these questions! What kind content should be posted on /c/rackers? What kind of content would be posted on rackers if you dropped the /c/? Do you want to see this comm created? If nobody wants /c/rackers may I suggest /c/hapotraphouse as an alternative. We really ought to use the /c/ in comms as part of the official name of these groups. Its a missed opportunity if you ask me.
1. will the board be ironically or unironically pro-trump? No. 2. will the board be about trump exclusively? Mostly not, it will mostly be a board about mocking liberal politics. 3. why should my leftist safespace have a subforum called “thedonald”? Because it would be funny and we could laugh at anyone who posts there unironically. 4. if there’s this girl I like, and I really like her, but she is obsessed with this thing called jebposting where she makes ironic memes about jeb bush winning elections in a landslide to comical degrees, to the point where she neglects eating, bathing, going outside, just to keep jebposting. Should I ask this girl out on a jeb bush themed date even if I think the joke itself is rather worn out and not funny anymore?
You can DM me I'll send it to you in advance so you can decide, but trust me the impact is going to be so funny.
One common complaint I've noticed among our comrades from the global south is that discussions on this site tend to be dominated by people from the imperial core. I think there would be some benefit to having a comm for people from the global south, and only people from the global south, to be able to talk amongst themselves without people assuming they're being hypocritical/edgelord first worlders. This would be similar in purpose to c/em_poc, but in regards to nationality rather than race.
Compare the size of China/Russia/India/USA/other militaries. Talk about nuclear strategy. Talk about new and coming military technology. etc.
It's been too long since [@WrongFacts@hexbear.net](https://hexbear.net/u/WrongFacts) went on a posting spree, and we need a place where everyone can post them. Putting them in c/cth or c/hat is inadequate, they need their own space. I probably come up with a few Wrong Facts per week as it is, and I bet others have plenty more. Fake News can be misleading and controversial and divisive, but Wrong Facts will brighten up anyone's day. This bit needs to be revived, and democratized!
No bs community to help with relationship advice. No dating or pursuing relationships will be allowed and is worthy of a ban.
They just all have to start with "ummm ackshully"
We have a generic science comm, but many of the posts are about space because space is fuckin cool. So there should be a dedicated comm for space to avoid overwhelming /c/science.
ive been thinking abt this for a while now: a comm for caffeinated drinks. im a big coffee drinker and rlly enjoy the process of brewing. this could be for tea too, and energy drinks ig. theres a lot of knowledge in brewing coffee (and im sure its the same for tea). im a bit of a novice, but i have a decent amount of experience to share involving espresso, cold brew, pour-overs, water hardness and temperature, grind size, bean selection, etc. we can also recommend each other gear. my first post would be talking abt my manual espresso machine that i highly recommend for quality espresso on a budget as im already on the mod team, i could mod this comm, and im sure i could find other users passionate abt coffee or tea to deputize
I want to replace reddit.com/r/modernart with a Lemmy version and I otherwise only have a Lemmy.ml account. I'd prefer to keep the community on Hexbear. There isn't really a community on reddit to migrate and I doubt anyone would join Hexbear for it, I just want to better focus the core idea of it here. Modernism is super relevant to the left, but it isn't well-represented by /c/art or /c/urbanism or /c/literature or /c/music or /c/history since it's a whole-ass thing in itself. I want it to be posts like this where there's a background and discussion for specific 1860s-1960s works/buildings/ideas/movements, how they made the 20th century different from the 19th, and how that informed their/our politics: https://www.reddit.com/r/modernart/comments/tlxspt/ee_cummings_next_to_of_course_god_america_i/
Hear me out, this could be like a sub where we discuss trends and stuff for people who don't understand new trends, kinda like out of the loop for reddit.
copying from my other thread: As leftists, we understand that a lot of individual problems are caused by systemic issues. However, I think that there is still a lot that can be done on the individual level to improve your life. Most online self-improvement spaces have a reactionary slant and are dominated by the same type of guy, which is another great reason to have a self-improvement comm on this website. We can change the name of the comm to something more fitting if you have some suggestions. If somebody wants to mod the comm, please let me know because I think I wouldn't have enough time.
A community where everyone has to communicate exclusively in emojis. ![egg-dog](https://www.hexbear.net/pictrs/image/7ecb1cde-cf12-41fe-9ebe-694cb8227d1c.png "emoji egg-dog") ![walter-shock](https://www.hexbear.net/pictrs/image/f964e4a4-cd19-4392-89e8-862f1b5adcd3.png "emoji walter-shock") ![cheeto](https://www.hexbear.net/pictrs/image/92cae776-c75f-446d-8f8a-a9a11a46e69a.png "emoji cheeto") ![big-cool](https://www.hexbear.net/pictrs/image/e4cfadcb-5077-4251-9e94-b2e008866f5e.png "emoji big-cool")
I think it would be funny ![biden-troll](https://www.hexbear.net/pictrs/image/05890121-c7b8-4efe-b6c7-1b346ef4d31d.png "emoji biden-troll")
I think it’s important to reflect on our history and discuss how we can better ourselves. I think in particular the fact that many of you deny the Tiananmen Square massacre, I think it would be beneficial to share the facts and mourn the losses.
For those of us who hate trains, public transportation and renewable energy sources, I think it’s only fair we have our own community to discuss oil prices and other things to do with fossil fuels
(Copy/paste from m*d application thread) I hereby declare an official request for a trueanon community on Hexbear. There’s one on lemmygrad already but it has three subscribers and I became #2 and #3 after I figured out how to join a new instance. I know chapo essentially serves the same purpose, but a TA comm could be used to gather the alarmingly more regular headlines about new “Jeffery Epstein(s) of ____” and our Pepe Silvia-style effort posts. Plus I locked down the username and need to grow the investment
Previously requested three years ago: https://hexbear.net/post/2640 Post tags never came, and we seem to be creating a new comm for everything else so I'd say it's only fair for this to be reconsidered.
commrequest
!commrequest@hexbear.netCommunity and moderator requests and nominations for unmodded communities.
No bulk requests. That means one comm request per post. This is so we can sort out their interest individually.
Community request posts with enough upbears and a volunteer for moderation willing to submit an application will be created during mod drives.
