Visit at Meise Plantentuin

Have some random images from the Meise (little town next to Brussels in Belgium) botanical gardens. They are specialised in endemic plants but also bananas, coffee and succulents. I also included pictures of the seedbank (the short term, max. 10 years part). ![](https://lemmy.world/pictrs/image/1d0b4e32-2ba0-444d-8229-c77d07689615.jpeg) ![](https://lemmy.world/pictrs/image/420372a7-f26e-44fe-93eb-c750c0d18ed5.jpeg) ![](https://lemmy.world/pictrs/image/2cec9055-7f86-4733-aa33-ce8906c888a0.jpeg) ![](https://lemmy.world/pictrs/image/2db635e8-bfda-4b3c-bec2-c44bb54a82f1.jpeg) ![](https://lemmy.world/pictrs/image/a54fce32-bfdb-4abb-ab30-b153c78a9a3d.jpeg) ![](https://lemmy.world/pictrs/image/ccaf8447-84d6-4fb7-a646-0e466ba29c33.jpeg) ![](https://lemmy.world/pictrs/image/4949f599-cad1-47c4-ad89-840998112842.jpeg) ![](https://lemmy.world/pictrs/image/428b5a9b-3337-40dc-98eb-66213ed90c87.jpeg) ![](https://lemmy.world/pictrs/image/e163b1f8-4383-423a-8f3f-153472ab0eb3.jpeg) ![](https://lemmy.world/pictrs/image/6e8abb73-7370-409d-8ab1-5185174c71b3.jpeg) ![](https://lemmy.world/pictrs/image/7f2e5ae0-38cf-47ef-a41d-81d21188326c.jpeg) ![](https://lemmy.world/pictrs/image/46a7cb19-90e4-42cf-9344-442defa57645.jpeg) ![](https://lemmy.world/pictrs/image/32a5f137-306d-4cd5-af67-f388cab9dd8e.jpeg) ![](https://lemmy.world/pictrs/image/0f724e51-e185-4462-a9a4-791f363d6448.jpeg) ![](https://lemmy.world/pictrs/image/0a22a8ce-97d4-4346-8d79-c00bcafc8067.jpeg) ![](https://lemmy.world/pictrs/image/a2248e01-9d63-40c0-a405-8304f1c37d72.jpeg) ![](https://lemmy.world/pictrs/image/26850dc7-2d72-4ef8-96ba-56b0cc89a063.jpeg)

Flowers ‘giving up’ on scarce insects and evolving to self-pollinate, say scientists
www.theguardian.com

Flowers are “giving up on” pollinators and evolving to be less attractive to them as insect numbers decline, researchers have said. A study has found the flowers of field pansies growing near Paris are 10% smaller and produce 20% less nectar than flowers growing in the same fields 20 to 30 years ago. They are also less frequently visited by insects. “Our study shows that pansies are evolving to give up on their pollinators,” said Pierre-Olivier Cheptou, one of the study’s authors and a researcher at the French National Centre for Scientific Research. “They are evolving towards self-pollination, where each plant reproduces with itself, which works in the short term but may well limit their capacity to adapt to future environmental changes.”
