Best way to automatically silence notifications at a specific time frame while already in Focus

This needs to be explained a bit, so here's my problem: * I use Focus for sleeping. I manually enable it when I go to bed and disable it when I wake up. * My Focus setting disables notifications for email, calendar, and some messaging apps. * My security camera app notifications are not disabled, obviously because I want to be alerted if something triggers it in the middle of the night. * However, there is a certain time in the morning between 7:30AM and 8AM where people walking on the sidewalk triggers alerts that wake me up. And no, I want to avoid not pointing my cameras away from that part of the sidewalk because it helps me catch people letting their pets pee and poop on my yard. * I usually wake up at 8AM and getting woken up 30 minutes earlier is annoying. * I am willing to accept the risk of not getting notifications from my cameras on my phone for 30 minutes before I wake up. What is the most practical way to disable notifications from an app on a scheduled time duration while Focus is already in use? Schedule it in Health? Create a shortcut/automation?

How far back do iCloud backups go?

I purchased an M4 iPad Pro and it arrived today. I went to set it up from my previous iPad Pro but it is running iPadOS 18, and 17.7 is the highest for the M4 currently. I updated on the 17th I think (a day or two after 18 came out) and wondering if I should wipe the new iPad and start again and try using a 17.x backup, or set up as a new device.

I fixed the Apple Magic Mouse 2!

In my asklemmy post (here: https://lemmy.world/post/20013379) I asked if anybody could help me because the mouse just does not glide well on my mousepad, while the 10 year old gaming mouse does glide. The answers were pretty good and something I looked into. Then, I was just like "what if…" and put regular tape on the mouse, just to test it… and… it glides!

Can iPhones be relocked by the carrier

So Xfinity was refusing to unlock my device on the basis I was not the first account holder to own the device, I eventually looked into it and the fcc states it should of been unlocked within 60 days of being paid off, and furthermore and that the restriction of me not being the original account holder didn’t seem to be defined by the FCC. I decided to do an FCC complaint and two days later got a call back from Xfinity where they unlocked the phone since it was on my Xfinity account. I have been using the phone with visible but I’m kinda worried could they reverse the unlock in the future?

Are you happy with your nano textured display? Was it worth the extra cost?

I recently had to replace the iPad I was using as my register in my business. I have been using my iPad Pro (2018) for the time being. But I need to get a second device. My current iPad has 512gb and I am bouncing between the same or 1tb, but since the nano glass screens only come one the 1tb+ models I am thinking about going that route. I have astigmatism from an eye injury, so screen glare is a killer for me. I currently have a matte paper like screen protector on my pro. If you got the nano glass and had it to do over again would you still get it? If you were leaning towards the 512gb model but went with larger storage for the nano glass, was that worth it to you?

IDs in Apple Wallet use the privacy and security features that are built into Apple devices to help protect a user’s identity and personal information. When adding an ID to Apple Wallet, the state-issuing authority receives only the information it needs to approve or deny the request. Once an ID is added to Apple Wallet, the information is encrypted on a user’s device, so others — including Apple — cannot access it unless a user chooses to present it. Apple and the state-issuing authority do not know when or to whom a user presents their driver’s license or state ID. A user’s presentment history is encrypted and stored only on their device, and Apple cannot see or access this information. When presenting an ID in Apple Wallet, only the information needed for the transaction is presented, and the user has the opportunity to review and authorize the information being requested with Face ID or Touch ID before it is shared. Users do not need to unlock, show, or hand over their device to present their ID.

The search bar for open tabs is moved in Safari on ipadOS 18

Anyone know if it is possible to get the search box back? I am one of those people who collects open tabs, i have always loved that safari on ipad always gives you the search box, unlike iphone where it is only at the top of all your open tabs. But now with 18 it appears to moved to the top of all the tabs like iphone.

Can't change notifications email [iOS]

I have only one Apple device and nothing else. I wanted to update the notifications email for my Apple account. I open my AppleID in a web page of Safari on my iPhone. I follow these steps : 1 Log in to appleid. 2 Select "Sign-in and Security" 3 Select"Notification Email" (the defunct email is displayed) 4 Select "Change Email" 5 Enter a new valid email address in the modal popup. 6 Click continue. The following message is displayed: "Continue on one of your devices On an iPhone, iPad or iPod touch go to Settings > Apple ID. On a Mac go to System Preferences or System Settings > Apple ID." When I look in Settings > AppleID ON THE DEVICE there is no option anywhere to change notification email … 🤷🏻‍♂️ People have been posting about this on the official Apple support forum for *years* with no solution mentioned.

Question - Apple Announces Expanded Satellite Services for UK and Canada

Genuine question because I can’t work it out - if the satellite services are used when the user has no network service, how can “carrier fees may still apply” work? Surely the absence of a carrier network signal and the use of satellite services means that you’re not using the carrier’s network, so how can they apply a charge?

Macbook Air wireless card replacement (continued)

Part 1: https://lemmy.kde.social/post/1763180 So I went and did it. Ordered an adapter and an intel ax200. It seems work just fine out of the box in linux. This cost me 25 to 30 euros total. ## Pics   ## Antenna considerations The laptop was only designed for up to ac. The new card can do ax, which uses a different band. My router doesn't support ax, so I have no clue if that will see significant signal drop with the old antennae. I actually haven't even bothered to look deep enough to know if this even would be an issue, maybe it's okay.

When will we ever get the option for a custom search engine? (Safari)

So as you may know, i am a guy mostly focused on privacy. Basically, insead of google i use SearXNG. (Privacy focused search engine) However, when i went to change the default search engine in safari, there was no option to add a custom search engine. This really pissed me off. So how come Apple allows changing default browsers in the EU, but not search engines?

Swiping in Finder

Can anyone shed any light on why you can't swipe back and forward in Finder with a trackpad? The option in Settings allows for two finger swipe between pages in eg. Safari, but that doesn't extend to Finder, and I can't work out why? I've been able to activate it using BetterTouchTool, but it seems like a truly bizarre omission, considering how much Apple have optimised macOS for trackpad use. I don't know why I've never really thought about it before, but now I can't stop...

You can use Freeform as a basic image editor on iOS

I wanted something like GIMP for iOS with which I can stitch together/overlay/crop images, add text, blank out parts, draw on the image, and so on. Nothing in the app store looked appealing, most of what I could find seems to be geared towards photo post processing, so I had the idea of trying Freeform for this, because well, it lets you place various objects on a canvas. And it works pretty well! Create a new board with the image inside, set it to no rounded corners and no shadow, and then do whatever you want to it with Freeform’s tools. Then, when you’re done, select Export to PDF and convert it to an image. You can use this share sheet shortcut which I made which makes an image out of it and also cuts away the white frame it generates around the PDF: https://www.icloud.com/shortcuts/fa5e2386588742b2a1f5d41401f2238e There you go, straight forward basic image editing with a free stock app. It unfortunately doesn’t preserve the original resolution of the image but it’s definitely good enough for me.
